Mother Teresa as my Role Model
Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a born a leader and a quintessential of modern leaders
we crave and yearn for. I have chosen Mother Teresa for here exemplary works and role in
saving humanity especially the less privileged in the society and this very vital for our work as
nurses.
As a catholic nun and a missionary, Mother Teresa built up and sustained a massive pool
of compassion and love which was spread in breath and length of the world (Fry, 2016). The
profound ways of humility and servant leadership of the her has forever shaped the way in
which the world looks at people who live in dilapidated conditions. Her key example of ethical
use of authority and power has become a quintessential to the people who have a great zeal in
this planet (Fry, 2016).
Leadership Style of Mother Teresa
The leadership style of Mother Teresa was laissez faire and situational leadership styles.
Mother Teresa empowered the power spiritually and economically. She helped and assisted
people according to their condition and situation, for instance, she provided food for people
when starving, offered them places to stay if they had nowhere to stay as well as practiced
medicine to heal people if they were sick (Thiran, 2017). As a situational leader, she was always
offering help according to the situation of the people finding solutions to help them in some
way.

Lessons from Mother Teresa to Nurses
Mother Teresa was caring, a risk taker, compassionate, religious and selfless individual.
She motivates me as a nursing student to be a better person and this is the reason I have chosen
her as my role model. Nurses should also show care and understanding to their patients who
needs their help.
