Introduction
Personal life experience caters to the formation of essential skill development in both
personal and professional sphere. The thesis statement of this essay is to understand the
implication of personal experience to develop a certain behavioural insight and lifelong
lesson. Motivation is considered to impose a critical impact on professional skill sets,
especially in commercial sector. Motivational skills in contexts of active communication and
leadership strategies are denoted. This essay will demonstrate an incident that has encouraged
me to develop and utilise my motivational skills in mass communication. Motivation can
influence actions, goals and willingness of people. Motive can refer to a requirement that
must be satisfied to reach goals. In professional context, motivation can strengthen leadership
direction towards positive behaviour.
Incident and analysis
The event occurred two years back when I worked as an intern in a human resource
department of a promising company. Our supervisor was in-charge of our induction and
timely analysis. We worked in a team of five, with each of our job roles specific as per our
skill sets. I had enrolled in late in the abovementioned internship session, and was thus
alloted with the leftover work for documentation and presentation. Owing to my cultural
difference, I often felt embarrassed while talking to large groups of people. However, I had
extensive documentation and analytical skills that enabled me to complete the data
management part of the job (Snapp 458). We were supposed to complete a project about
improving the existing employee database system of the company. At the end of the project,
one of the members of the team was supposed to provide an oral presentation on the project
that has been undertaken. This presentation was imbibed upon me to be undertaken after
closure.

As mentioned above, communication skill was a prominent weakness. I could not
address large groups of people without feeling self-conscious or fidgeting in my spot. This
often made me forget the discussion that I am supposed to speak about. In many cases, it has
given rise to awkward situations that had to be aided by voluntary personnel. Hence, during
group projects, I tended to shy away from most activities that included active communication
with large groups of people. One of my prominent skills was my analytical skills. This led to
the prominence of my skills in the data collection phases. I reached out to my supervisor, Mr.
Smith to address my problems. I explained to him how my introverted nature and cultural gap
causes me problems to address larger crowds while doing oral presentation (Miner 52). I
requested him to shift me to some other parts of the project where I can perform in a more
efficient manner and attain the designated deliverables. Belbin’s team roles suggest
incorporation of human resource in the strategic vantage point of skills and abilities as per
their personal preferences (Bellemare et al. 151). However, my supervisor insisted that I
continue with my premeditated course of work. Mr. Smith believed that with efficient
practice, I would be able to boost my confidence and speaking capabilities in front of a large
audience.
Under his guidance, I enrolled in grooming and spoken communication classes. Mr.
Smith continuously motivated me to develop my skill sets in areas of presentability and mass
communication. He would insist that I speak my opinions during meetings, and would
present my ideas in the form of rough draft before my teammates (Morten and Berridge 25).
Simulation classes for active verbal communication also helped me to develop my knowledge
on areas of active speaking and listening, addressing questions and resolving queries of
stakeholders regarding the project (Steers and SánchezRunde 195). The grooming classes
aided me to develop my confidence in terms of my speaking and conversational skills. Mr.
Smith also invited me to several conferences that lead me to analyse the way that great

speakers deliver their speech. I was also motivated to talk to at least one stakeholder over the
phone and mail three distinct sources as practice sessions. The prime benefits of these classes
are that I learn how to speak in a manner that can capture the attention of an audience.
Gradually, the dual composure of classes and practice lessons enabled me to get rid of my
insecurities.
On the day of the presentation, I felt queasy due to performance anxiety. Mr. Smith
guided me in every step. This enabled me to feel better and practice as per my understanding.
However, I felt more prepared for this presentation in comparison to the previous events. This
is because of the way my supervisor aided me to develop my skills as per a systematic
contingency plan. During the presentation, I felt confident and my discussion was supported
by the evidence that I documented prior to my presentation. It provided me with important
points, in case I forget to address one of them (Lakmal and Dawson 12). At the end of the
presentation, the investors were satisfied by our projects and assigned us further tasks for its
processing. This experience boosted my confidence and helped me to reduce my performance
anxiety through methodical manners. Hence, it can be seen in this case that motivation acts as
a prominent precursor to success. In the absence of motivation, learners may often develop
partial knowledge. This can hinder their ability to perform in their best possible quality.
Conclusion
Based on the above analysis, it can be concluded that motivation is an essential part of
managing activities. This essay has explored the impact of motivation on the success rate of a
intern. It also showed how appropriate motivation can introduce better outcomes in a project.
In this case, in the initial phases, it is seen that the intern has been suffering from severe
depression and performance anxiety. However, systematic counselling and motivation has
given rise to positive outcomes. The gradual development noticed in this case has inspired me
greatly to introduce it in my personal and professional strategies. I believe, this strategy with

benefit me to influence people and obtain desired deliverables in a project. It will also help
me to improve my communication skills and my ability to influence people to follow my
insight. Overall, this experience has shaped my insights about team building, motivation,
leadership and communication paradigms.
