Motivation theories are the theories which are applied by the leaders and mangers of an
organization in order to motivate their team members and staff members of the company so that
they could achieve their organizational goals (An, and et.al., 2020). In modern workplace,
motivation theories are most important to enhance employee productivity. But there are some of
the challenges that could be faced by mangers in implementing motivation theories. In the below
essay it covers about the theories of motivation and how these can be applying in a modern
workplace.
Theories of motivation and how to apply them in a modern workplace
Modern workplace is the workplace which is following all the latest and updated
technologies that are coming in the market as well. Now a days managers of modern workplace
are using latest techniques to enhance employees motivation. A motivated person can reach to
his goals and objectives easily as compared to unmotivated person. The importance of
motivation in workplace is most important because it helps in increasing productivity of
employees and this helps in achieving their goals and objectives. Organization and their mangers
should have to work to make use that employee needs and demands are being fulfilled in the
organization and this helps them in increasing in their efficiency (Pitafi, Kanwal, and Khan,
2020). This results in accomplishing their objectives and realizing their living standards. There
are various motivation theories which are used in the company are Maslow’s hierarchy of needs,
MacGregor’s theories X&Y, Herzberg two factor. as these are theories which are motivating
employee for being motivated towards their work. In in Maslow theory of motivation, this is a
theory of job satisfaction as this consist of various needs which are to be fulfilled of employee in
order to get motivate employees- these needs are physiological needs, safety and security needs,
social needs, esteem needs, self-actualization needs. These are some of the needs which are
being fulfilled by the organizations and if one need is fulfilled then person moved to another one.
So, all the fulfilled should be fulfilled by originations in order to make them motivate and try to
expand in their job satisfaction.
Besides the needs of food, shelter and safety from physical harm, employees also work for
recognitions and social interactions and rewards so that could feel motivated and appreciated as
well. Then another motivational theory is Herzberg two factor theory- as in this theory Herzberg

said that there are five feature of work which could bring satisfaction (Elliott, 2020). These are
achievement, job itself, advancement, recognition and responsibility. Company uses Herzberg
theory of motivation in creating opportunities for personal growth and recognition of the
employees and team members. Employees in this motivational theory should be promoted after
completing their certain stages of their career and should also receive recognition of the
company. Then another theory which is being used by many of the organization in McGregor’s
X and Y theory- as this is the theory which is used in most of the organization. Theory X
assumes that there is a negative perceptive of people- as people could not like the working
environment in which they are working they if they are being controlled, directed and threatened.
Theory Y assumes positive approach as in this mental and physical inputs extended at the
workplace and par at the rest and play. As these are the theories in which employees’ needs are
being fulfilled and their demands and needs are fulfilled and achieved by mangers.
Managers and leaders should have to recognize the performance of employees so that they
could feel more motivated and resulting in theme in increasing their objectives and task (Hua,
and et.al., 2020). Contemporary theories are the theories of motivation which are incorporate
equity, control and agency theory, job design theory, reinforcement and goal setting. There are
both of the motivation theories like content and process theory which can help in motivating
employees for long term. Then extrinsic motivation satisfies lower-level needs and wants.
Managers are working under supervisors so they have to follow their rules and regulations.
Intrinsic motivation is something which is most enjoyable. As it is said that employees are happy
in whatever they are doing. Extrinsic motivation helps in providing appreciation, external
rewards and recognition in order to make employees motivate. In modern workplace, there is
more use of motivation theories because these helps in rising productivity, momentum, job
satisfaction, loyalty, focus an ease of teamwork. As this helps in increasing employees’
motivation. And if the employees are motivated more than they will work more effectively in the
organization. Motivational theories are mostly used in the modern workplace now a days in order
to motivate employees through make use of traditional and innovation compensation (An, and
et.al., 2020). As by giving compensation to the employees they could even work on their
achievement of goal and objectives. When a manger is analyzing theories and models of
motivation applying in the workplace then this will be considered to fall in two categories that is
Psychology today, these are intrinsic motivations and extrinsic motivation.

Intrinsic motivation helps the employees in being motivated by their work they are
becoming more enjoyable and extrinsic motivations employees are getting reward and
recognition which makes them motivated towards their work. Mangers should have to institute
employee development programmers, employee’s recognition programmer which helps them in
developing more positively and resulting in employee’s satisfaction in their needs and demands.
When motivation theories are being applied to the workplace like Herzberg theory is applied in
the company then there could be certain conditions in which various condition or hygienic factor
should be used in the company in order to motivate employees towards their work so that they
could achieve organizational objectives. An absence of hygiene factors leads to dissatisfaction
among employees and results in does not getting motivation. As motivators work more
powerfully than hygiene factors. Hygiene factors like status, security, working relationships and
work conditions, pay and bureaucracy are some of the factors which could affect employee’s
performance of doing work. Further, managers of the modern workplace could provide better
heathy and positive working environment to the employees so that they could feel good and
happy and loves to do work in the busines environment. Workplace is applying motivation
theory in success of the organizations and making their profits in everyday life. This affects can
be felt by both employees and leaders and this brings more motivation employees team members
(Pitafi, Kanwal, and Khan, 2020). Understanding of the importance of motivation leads to the
self-motivating. These theories allow employees in willing to work in an organization.
So, from the above essay it is seen that employees are being motivated by the theories
and this allows them in achieving their success. While applying this theory there can be some of
the challenges which are to be faced by managers and this brings conflicts at the workplace and
results in being demotivated sometimes. So, mangers should have to work on those issues and
challenges and make their team more motivated.
Conclusion
From the above report it is analyzed that motivated theories helps the organization in
achieving their objectives and goals. Now a days many of the motivation theories are coming in
use so these help employees in being motived by fulfilling their demands and results in
increasing their profitability. If company is using motivation theories in effective manner, then
this may result in enhancing employee’s knowledge and skills and they work more strongly at
the workplace. If not, then there could be less in productivity of company.
