INTRODUCTION
Motivation can be describe as a process through which needs and descries can be
successfully achieve (Lichtenberg, Lachmann and Fosshage, 2013). This is considered as
essential part of organisation as it help in enhancing performance of employees. Motivation will
help in encouraging employees as well as accomplishment of goals. Chosen company for this
report is Jack store. This is new discount store which is operating its functions in UK market
area. The major competitors of this store is Aldi and Lidl. This report includes various
motivational theories that will help in influencing as well as motivating employees performance.
MAIN BODY
Motivation play important role in organisation as it lead to enhance performance of
employees. There are different ways though which respective company can motivate its
employees and achieve desired goals. Jack store needs to motivate its employees as this will help
in improving productivity as well as profitability (Dembo, 2013). Motivation theories can be
describe as a framework that will help organisation to motivate them. There are various
motivational theories that will lead to motivate employees in effective and efficient manner.
Though this respective company will be able to achieve set targets. Motivation will help in
boosting the moral of employees as well as developing better relationship.
Motivation theories are classified into two major parts such as content theories and
process theories. Content theories of motivation includes Maslow's needs hierarchy, ERG theory,
Herzberg's two factor theory and so on. Process theories consist of Victor Vroom's expectancy,
skinner's reinforcement theory, Adam's equality theory and many more. Different motivational
theories are mention below in context of Jack store.
Maslow's Hierarchy of needs
This theory is developed by Abraham Maslow in 1943 and motive of developing this
theory is to provide guidelines to employees. This theory is focus on motivating employees by
full filling their needs and requirements. Maslow need theory includes five stages such as
physiological need, safety need, social, esteem and self actualization. It is essential for
organisation to meet with these needs of employees as this will help in motivating them.
Different stages of Masow's Hierarchy need is mention below in detail.

Physiological need – This is considered as the basic need of an individual and it includes
food, water, shelter and so on (Wouters and Van, 2017). These needs are very important
and this is important for survival of a person. Jack store needs to consider as all of these
needs as this will help in boasting the moral of employees. Safety need – Once physiological needs of employees are satisfy they will focus on
meeting with safety needs. This need includes security, protection, freedom from fear etc.
It is essential for respective company to provide safety to its employees so that they can
work in effective and efficient manner. Social need – Social needs consist of love and belongingness of family and friends. It is
important for Jack store to meet with social needs of employees as this will help in
creating better relationship in between organisation. Each and every person wants to full
fill social needs by developing better relationship in society. Esteem need – This need is majorly includes dignity, achievement status of a person. Self
esteem needs of employees needs to be full filled as this will help in motivating as well as
encouraging employees. For this respective company should recognize the great work of
employees as this will help in satisfying esteem needs.
Self actualization need – This is that last need of Maslow need theory and it consist of
personal potential, growth and development, self fulfilment. In this needs employees will
try to achieve their personal goals.
Advantages – There are several benefits that could be achieved by Jack store by applying
Maslow need theory. This theory will help in meeting with needs of employees as well as
develop better relationship in organisation.
Limitations – The major issue with this theory is that it is not applicable for all
individual as different person have different needs. It is very difficult for this Jack store to meet
with the needs of all employees.
Vroom expectancy motivation theory
This theory is developed by Victor Vroom and it is based on the assumption the
behaviour of an individual is based upon the choices from alternatives in order to maximize
pleasure as well as reduce pain (Miller, 2013). Performance of employees is based on their skills,
personality and other attributes. Vroom expectancy motivation theory includes expectancy,
instrumentality and valence. All of these elements are important for motivating employees.

Valence – This can be refer as all those elements which help in motivating employees in
order to achieve certain outcomes. Valence will help in measuring the value in which
employee is attached to rewards achieved. Expectancy – This includes individual efforts to achieve certain outcomes or rewards
(Conrad, Ghosh and Isaacson, 2015). Expectancy elements will help inn determining
probability that specific actions of a person will help in accomplishment of desired

Advantages – This theory will help in providing support to manager of Jack store in
order to motivate its employees (Fonseca, Redondo and Villagrasa, 2015). Rewards and
incentives are very helpful in motivating employees as well as enhance performance.
Limitations – Drawback of this theory is that its application is limited to rewards and
incentives. This theory is complex and can not be fully apply in respective company.

From the above report it can be concluded that motivating is essential for encouraging
employees performance as well as increase their loyalty. There are several motivation theory that
will help company to achieve desired goals. Motivation theory have different pros and cons so
company needs to apply appropriate way of motivating as per organisation requirements.
