INTRODUCTION
The report prepared reflects the related aspects and terms associated to Motivation theory
that serves as a guide towards companies and businesses to develop and expand for improving
the performance of staff related persons (Abramson, 2020). It helps enterprises to take care of
opportunities and chances related to growth are not being missed. In such reports the related task
run on motivational tools and methods which can be followed and could be taken in account by
Tesco in case of Jack stores for enhancing the management of the companies is explained. And
even the positive and negative aspects of Jack discount stores are taken in account with reference
to motivational theories.
TASK
Explain the motivational theories in context of Jack stores and Tesco management. Also jot
down the pros and cons of the Jack discount stores.
Motivation can be explained as the status of mind that is occupied with energy and
enthusiasm, that drives an individual to perform tasks in a specified manner. For achieving the
set objectives and goals related to companies it is mandatory to make staff persons work in a
efficient and effective way. As in relation with Tesco management the organisation is thinking
and developing plans for launching new discount stores "Jack" as a section of the ongoing
strategy and policy. As an HR the various motivation theories that can be practiced in case of
businesses for facilitating motivation of staff persons is stated as under:
Herzberg theory of motivation: Such theory was introduced by Fredrick Herzberg in year
1959. It is also stated as factor theory that is considered very necessary in business related
organisations for keeping employees motivated and satisfied. These two factors are defined as
under:
Motivational factor: Such elements , factors are held liable for encouraging employees to work
harder (Beynon-Davies, 2019). It is an necessary purpose in vase of companies running
business for increasing efficiency and effectiveness of employees for raising level of
production in a company. It is thus very important for Jack to motivate available staff
and keep in notice some factors such as recognition, appraisal of performance being

served. The supervisors must focus on serving rewards and appraisals toward its
employed persons for achieving the set target of the business.
Advantage: Such theories can serve as a medium towards firm to provide help for
companies that would be useful in solving problems related to employment. Another
benefit can be defined such as the business must focus on areas which provide
satisfaction in job and promotions. The employees must be treated fairly and shall be
appreciated for performance being served by them in organisation.
Limitation: The manager is required to take stress on hygiene factors. This theory is very
uncertain. And even this theory is not free from biasness the reason being it might be
possible that it is based on natural reaction of employees (Eggert and et.al., 2018).
Mc Cleland's need theory: It is a sort of theory that defines the procedure of
motivation as how the wants, requirements and needs must be approached. It was
introduced by David Mc Cleland who was known as American psychologist. It came into
existence in 1960s and it contained three main areas that are described below:
Need for power: It is a related desire inbuilt in a respective person to hold
controlling authority over an person. It describes the qualities that are there in a
individual that can be described as influencing power over others to manage their
related work and become leaders by strong insights and ideas & even higher level
of skills. It describes how one can convince other person to feel motivated
towards the goals and objectives that must be achieved in a given time frame.
Need for achievement: As the name states there is always a quality possessed by a
individual for achieving something. It is the necessity that drives a individual
person towards work related goals for which a anyone is ready to struggle for
achievements. There are people who have higher capabilities and have an urge to
complete related tasks and achieve difficult tasks through innovative ways.
Need for affiliation: It states that the person has a need to have a interpersonal and
social bonds and relations with other or a specific set of persons or group. There
are people who chose working in form of groups for building friendly and long
lasting relationships so that they have healthy bonding and liked by other
individuals as well. If Jack the store manager possess any of such qualities in the

working culture and business environment of a company it might be helpful to
motivate related employees towards the accomplishment of goals and objectives.
Advantage: The Tesco management can prove to satisfy if above defined theory is taken into
account as it would serve as an advantage over others amd increase level of satisfaction.
If working people are given the power needed, affiliation and achievement as well they
will feel highly motivated and it would also affect their level of productivity that would
help to achieve goals related to business (Foss and Saebi, 2018).
Limitations: The theory stated does not focus on the basic requirements of employees such as
shelter or food. It only focuses on power relating to achievement, affiliation and power.
Giving excessive power may lead to a situation creating conflicts among related
employees. building relationship with workforce.(Mildenberger, 2020).
CONCLUSION
From the above asserted report it can be concluded that it is necessary for organisations
to keep motivating their people present in environment that would help them to serve goals of
company. It would be beneficial for them as well the reason being they would be able to achieve
their set targets and build relations for long period of time. It helps to provide benefits and
limitations that are associated with the used and explained theories as above. The report also
gives ideas as what can be done and how can such theories be implemented that would serve as a
tool for achieving related results and profitability scale of business.
