Introduction
In the assessment, the complete design of the Movie booking application will be evaluated by the
group members. While evaluating the screens or the designs, there some mistakes identified with
the help of heuristic principles. It can be solved for making consistency and attractive to the
users.
Design Evaluation
The tablet-based application of cinema hall named “Your Choice Movie Theater” is designed
with the help of heuristic principles of Jakob Nielsen. For evaluation of designs of cinema hall
application, all 10 heuristic principles will be used. There are three members in the group who
performed the evaluation process are Vikeshaben Pravinbhai Patel, Madhu Kumar Kasturi, and
Manideep Nagula. Each team member facing different issues in the designed screens of cinema
hall application (TechJini, 2018).
With the help of heuristic principles, the mistakes will be evaluated with including type of issues,
location of the issue, and solution:
Visibility of system status: This principle indicates for identifying the system status that
what is running on the screen within a proper reasonable time with appropriate feedback.
o Issue faced: In the screen, an issue faced about the status or the processing of the
activity done by the user.
o Issue location: This issue faced on the Login screen, payment screen and the
registration screen.
o Problem of issue: By this issue, users were not able to check the status of the
screening process.
o Type of issue: Major issue
o Evaluated by: Vikeshaben Pravinbhai Patel
Match between system and the real world: This principle indicates about the connection
with the real-world entities. The components such as images will look like real and well
suited for the screen requirement (Hussain, et al., 2016).
o Issue faced: In the screen, an issue faced about the application logo and the name of
the application.
o Issue location: This issue faced on almost every screen, mainly in the splash screen.
o Problem of issue: By this issue, the application can’t be identified easily without
using it.
o Type of issue: Major issue
o Evaluated by: Madhu Kumar Kasturi
User Control and Freedom: It indicates the unwanted mistakes done by the user while
using the application such as mandatory requirements were not entered while moving to the
next screen or step.
o Issue faced: In the screen, a warning message is not provided when the user is
completing the payment process.

o Issue location: This issue faced on the Login screen, payment screen and the
registration screen.
o Problem of issue: By this issue, the user will not able to verify their details that it is
entered correctly or not.
o Type of issue: Major issue
o Evaluated by: Manideep Nagula
Consistency and Standards: This principle indicates the designing of the application has to
be consistent with the standardized form in each and every screen.
o Issue faced: In the screen, an issue faced about the component size and the color
combination used.
o Issue location: This issue faced on the search bar screen and the discount screen.
o Problem of issue: the User interface of the screens were not looking properly without
consistency.
o Type of issue: Major issue
o Evaluated by: Vikeshaben Pravinbhai Patel
Error Prevention: This principle used for controlling or preventing errors occurred while
using the designed application.
o Issue faced: In the screen, an issue faced with back button functionality used in the
application.
o Issue location: This issue faced in each and every screen of the application.
o Problem of issue: By this issue, the user will not able to move to the screens where
they want to move with their requirements.
o Type of issue: Major issue
o Evaluated by: Madhu Kumar Kasturi
Recognition rather than recall: It indicates the instructions provided in the application by
which the user can easily understand without facing any issue (Ali, et al., 2015).
o Issue faced: In the screens, the issue faced while the suggestions provided to the user.
o Issue location: This issue faced in the registration screen, login screen, payment
screen, and the offers screen.
o Problem of issue: The problem occurred in the screens where details have to be
provided with the requirements of the screen.
o Type of issue: Major issue
o Evaluated by: Manideep Nagula
Flexibility and efficiency of use: It is the principle used for speed up the interaction between
the users and the system. Users can be experienced or not experienced.
o Issue faced: This issue faced with not proper linking between screens and the color
combinations of the components.
o Issue location: This issue faced in the Offers screen.
o Problem of issue: The screens were not followed by this heuristic principle.
o Type of issue: Major issue
o Evaluated by: Vikeshaben Pravinbhai Patel

Aesthetic and minimalist design: It indicates about the information provided in the screen
is to be specified and relevant.
o Issue faced: In the screens, the unnecessary or the extra content provided in the
screens.
o Issue location: This issue faced in the Need Help screen.
o Problem of issue: The relevant information is not provided in the screens.
o Type of issue: Major issue
o Evaluated by: Madhu Kumar Kasturi
Help user recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors: It indicates the error messages
which were not expressed in coding languages.
o Issue faced: It is faced when the user entering alphabets instead of numbers.
o Issue location: This issue faced in the registration or login screen.
o Problem of issue: The message displayed on the screen is not relevant or not in a
polite manner.
o Type of issue: Major issue
o Evaluated by: Manideep Nagula
Help and Documentation: It indicates the helping verbs provided in the screen by which the
user can understand easily without any guidance of the experienced person.
o Issue faced: It is faced in the screens where information is not properly defined.
o Issue location: It is faced on the Movie Description screen.
o Problem of issue: The users will be getting confused about the screens because of the
screen’s title missing.
o Type of issue: Major issue.
o Evaluated by: Vikeshaben Pravinbhai Patel
Remedies found for issues
The issues were identified by the team members and also provided a better solution for resolving
it. These were discussed below:
Issue: The extra or unnecessary information provided on the Need Help screen.
Solution: With the help of “Minimalist & aesthetic design” principle the unnecessary
information can be eliminated.
Identified by: Manideep Nagula
Issue: Alignment was not proper in almost every screen.
Solution: With the help of “Consistency and standards” principle, the alignment can be
properly aligned.
Identified by: Vikeshaben Pravinbhai Patel
Issue: While confirming payment, no pop-up message was displayed for confirmation.
Solution: With the help of “User Control and Freedom” principle, it can be solved after
implementing a pop-up message for payment confirmation.
Identified by: Madhu Kumar Kasturi
Issue: Back button on each and every screen.

Issue: The application logo and the name were not properly related to the designed
application.
Solution: With the help of “Match between system and real-world” principle, the application
name and the logo can be updated with the relevancy in the application.
Identified by: Madhu Kumar Kasturi
Issue: Users getting confused about the screens because of the screen’s title missing in
Movie description screen.
Solution: With the help of “Help and Documentation” principle, the helping verbs or the
proper information can be provided to the users in the screen.
Identified by: Manideep Nagula
Usability Strategy
It provides the strategy for better usability of the screen with the help of heuristic principles. The
application design of movie ticket bookings is to be improved. The design patterns, alignment
and the attractiveness of the application are not properly designed with the use of real-world
entities or the components. So, there were some strategies of usability that can be implemented
with the following process (Quiñones & Rusu, 2017). These were:
Before design implemented: Before implementing the application, the requirements were
required to gather for making the proper documentation for designing the application.
During design implementation: With the help of heuristic principles, the design will be
implemented with proper documentation and fulfilling the complete requirements of the
application.
After design implemented: After completing the design of the application, each screen has
to be tested whether the linking between the screens is proper or not, it is user-friendly or not,
it is error-free or not, etc.
Conclusion
In this assessment, the evaluation process is performed by the team members. There were some
issues or problems found in the design of Movie Booking application. While designing, all
heuristic principles were not followed so that the solution of the mistakes done was provided for
making a better interface of the application.
