The MRI few known risks to the fetus and especially in the third and second trimester. It can
only be done after consulting with a radiology faculty especially during the first trimester.
Though it is said that having MRI during a pregnancy presents minimal danger to the offspring,
but many risks appear to contribute to the change when contrast agents are used.
A scholarly article by Joel G. 2016, reveals that MRI during pregnancies is thought as safe for
the fetus and especially in the third trimester, however, its exposure during the first trimester has
safety concerns primarily because of heating on sensitive tissues using radiofrequency fields and
constant exposure to loud environments. Using the gadolinium, the MRI accuracy on diagnosis
has been greatly improved, (Ray, 2016).
From a credible website source, MRI has raised many concerns which include its safety and the
effects caused by different kinds of magnetic fields. From this source, there is no enough proof
concerning safety and more research is needed so as to arrive to a solid conclusion. Possible
combinations such as static magnetic field strength, radiofrequency energy variability, gradient
magnetic field and the scan time have been presented as prospective health risks.
From a popular source, says that patients should not refuse an MRI exam especially in the case
of a serious and urgent sickness. This source presents alternatives to the MRI as ultrasound and
Computed tomography. Ultrasound commonly used in imaging exams and uses often uses sound

waves to produce images during pregnancy while computed tomography uses majorly x-ray
radiations, (Fernandez, 2016).
The difference between the scholarly article, the credible website source and the popular source
they do not agree of the maximum safety of the MRI during pregnancy. The scholarly article
considers that the accuracy of the MRI can only be improved by using gadolinium, the credible
website source contradicts by saying there is no enough proof as to the safety of MRI and the
popular sources offer alternatives to the method. All these three sources are credible because
they provide unique information about the MRI procedures, (Nissan, 2019).
