INTRODUCTION
Leadership and management are vital for the success of an organization as they play
various functions with effectively. This present study is based on Marks & Spencer retailer
public limited company. Marks & Spencer is a British multinational retailer. Headquarter of this
company is in London, UK. It was founded by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer in 1884
(Brauner, Dourado and Traversa, 2015). It operates worldwide and sells branded goods like
Kellogg's corn flakes, food products, linen clothes etc. This study will show about summary of
Marks & Spencer as what products they sales and in which country they operate. They also use
various management practices and leadership style with the main aim of achieving their pre
determined goals by motivating them. Mc Gregor Theory x and Theory Y is also being followed
by Marks & Spencer company in order to motivate their employees (Lawter, Kopelman and
Prottas, 2015). With this theory they make their employees able to perform effectively and
productively.
Further this study will cover and show about different management styles like
transformational, autocratic, democratic and organizational culture that influence their business
functions and performance in positive as well as in a negative manner. It will also show about the
importance of management practices like rewards to employees, employees engagement , team
efforts. All these practices helps manager of the company to achieve their team goals by
satisfying employees needs and by providing better quality services and products to its
customers. Democratic leadership style also help them in increasing employees' morale and
loyalty (Bush, Bell and Middlewood, 2019). This study will also show some recommendations
about leadership and management of this company in order to achieve competitive advantages
and for better improvement.
