Consideration of the cultural context of the client and counselor (MSJCC)
During counseling it is highly
crucial for Quentin, as a
counselor to be aware of his own
cultural bias (Isaac, 2016).
Counselors must admit their
racial as well as cultural
heritage along with the effects
of racism, discrimination,
oppression and stereotyping
(Çerkez et al., 2018).
Quentin must recognize that the
world view of client is different
from their own.
On that basis, he needs to
provide the intervention.
Brief overview of the Ethical
Dilemma
Quentin has been treating his
client Jennifer since 2 months.
The treatment of Jennifer is a
secret to his husband
Since Quentin has got face to
face with his client’s husband in
a social setting, it became an
ethical dilemma for Quentin to be
authentic as well as maintain the
confidentiality of his client
simultaneously.

Value systems of the client and counselor
Counselors needs to ensure that the values used during the
counseling process must be based on the cultural values of the
client.
It is also the Duty of Quentin to provide interventions based on the
cultural values of Jennifer ( Adeusi, 2018)
Counselors should always respect the freedom of the clients
Clients should not keep any crucial information associated with the
treatment to himself or her self.
As a client, Jennifer should provide Quentin with all required
information in order deal to obtain a better treatment.
The counseling must be culturally competent and should not
disregard the cultural values of the client by any mean
Counsellorsshould
maintain confidentiality as well as privacy awareness and sensitivit
y about cultural meanings.
