ARCH 5209: Design Research Lab 2 - Hostel Design at MSU, Gujarat

This project focuses on the design of a sustainable hostel for the MSU Faculty of Technology and Engineering in Gujarat, India. The student conducted a thorough site analysis, considering factors such as accessibility, climate, and existing infrastructure. The design incorporates sustainable principles, including the use of steel, timber, and recycled plastic shingles. The project emphasizes renewable energy sources like solar harvesting and water harvesting techniques. Furthermore, it includes composting toilets and an organic garden to promote waste recycling and resource management. A SWOT analysis is presented to evaluate the project's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The design includes floor plans, elevations, and sections to illustrate the layout and features of the proposed hostel. The student's approach considers environmental factors and the needs of the local community. The project aims to create a modern, environmentally friendly, and contextually appropriate hostel design that aligns with sustainable building practices.
