INTRODUCTION
Multicultural resembles the mix of various types of cultures and multicultural
counseling refers to the concept where the vales, attitude, belief, morals, habits and
ways of living of different cultures are taken into consideration. Multicultural
counseling is the process where the therapist gets acquainted with the differences in
the attitude and cultural aspects of the individual to understand them better (Baruth &
Manning., 2016). Multicultural counseling is a medical terminology and procedure
that is practiced to enable people or group of people from different background and
culture to communicate and attend the sessions to modify their behavior. The
background from where the person comes, culture, race, religion and ways of
thinking are influenced by the cultural differences and also affects their personality
and life. There are various barriers that are presented during this concept
implementation for multicultural counseling these includes the behavior of the
counselor, incapacity of the individual, severe religious and cultural differences,
traditional beliefs etc. This assignment is based on discussion regarding how the
cultural factors affect the wellbeing of an individual and the process of multicultural
counseling.

DISCUSSION
There are several cultural concepts being practiced globally and each of them has
their set of rules, beliefs, attitude and values. In old age it was believed that living in
a group or a particular community with having limited ties to other culture is safe and
good and people use to follow this trend for a long span of time. As the Stone Age
changed to modern age the thought and process of following such rituals also
changed and people started accepting the varied cultural background and living in
cosmopolitan societies that had people from different cultural backgrounds living
together (Chao et al., 2011). The social attitude in modern age has always taught us
not to discriminate on basis of caste, creed, race or religion yet there are instances
every day where such discrimination takes place and people still do not raise their
voice against it (Capuzzi & Stauffer., 2016). Talking of my own family and preaching
from my family and parents I have always been taught to follow a unbiased approach
towards the individual on basis of any of the discriminating factors and to follow
brotherhood and spread love wherever I live in order to add up to equality on this
planet. My tradition is motivated from the Telangana state and background I have
always been taught to respect my elders and focus on having good rapport with
people irrespective of their case or race (Robinson-Wood., 2016). I always manage
to inculcate these teachings in my practice and interact with multicultural people by
fostering their dignity and integrity and try to be responsive to them so I can develop
a good rapport.
As it is evident from my genogram representation my family has a huge ancestral
base with many relatives and cousins. There are some issues from my maternal end
regarding disputes for property and some disagreements that leads to disrespect
among family members. Yet my parents have always taught me to not respond to

such behavior in the same manner and remain calm and content to focus on life with
positivity and goodness. It is always my approach to communicate to the people no
matter what discriminating factor divides us or makes us difference, for me all the
people in this world are human beings and should be treated with humanity.
Multicultural counseling basically depends on understanding the thoughts of others
with their perspective and not to let our belief overpower their concept of life. I will
explain my strengths and weakness regarding multicultural interactions that I have
identified during these years. As a child to a couple from Hyderabad and from a
business class family I was always raised with luxurious lifestyle yet taught to hold
my grounds firmly. It is my quality that I interact with multicultural people effectively
without being overpowered by my own values or morals and respect their
perspective even when I have difference of opinion. I also believe in promoting
respect to every individual and not to force my belief on anyone including my close
friends and family.
There are some limitations that hinder my way to appropriate interaction at times and
these obstructions at times preset challenges with my efficient communication skills.
The language issue I have due to belonging from different culture and community
makes others judge me at times, but my personal principles are to judge people on
basis of their opinion and not on the values they follow or culture they address. The
most effective part I multicultural counseling is the understanding between the
counselor and the client; if the counselor’s attitude or values are overpowering the
interaction in any manner the understanding that is required with neutral behavior
cannot be achieved. Difference in opinion can be present between the client and the
counselor but the presentation of those differences by the counselor is what matters
(Craft., 2017).

As per viewing my current status I have disagreement regarding some issues with
my siblings but I am always up to make it out with them in order to have a good
relationship and collaborative working. As the heir to a business that my father runs
including the farming, conventions and real estate I need to have good
communication skills as I have to expand this business further and this will be the
main bread and butter for even our next generations. To deliver tis adequately I have
to be calm and compassionate with my words and judgments regarding the
individuals I am in business with and also the family members that can aid up to my
success and even can be responsible for my failure if not handled wisely. My family
has inbuilt the morals in us that no matter what goes wrong still family sticks together
and the humanity in us should never reduce at any cost (Parks-Leduc, Feldman &
Bardi., 2015). This has helped me to communicate with different individuals
internationally and nationally from same or different cultures effectively and to be
able to maintain my rapport with them on basis of good values and principles.
CONCLUSION
Multicultural counselor has huge responsibility of understanding the person and
acting in accordance to the rights and maintains the dignity of the person to build a
rapport. The attitude of a counselor can successfully result the session and can also
lead to failure. The personal values and teachings from family are essential part that
was identified within the report to make sure I have gained these values from my
ancestors and in future the scenario can be directed to betterment.
