Pluralism is a situation where two or more states, societies, groups or sources of authority
develop and maintain peaceful co-existence in their different interests and lifestyles to ensure
civilization at the same time. In Canada, immigrants and refugees have taken over the industry of
providing labor. These immigrants are well and highly trained but they face a lot of challenges
when they move to Canada. Canadians have also come up with myths that are against settling of
immigrants in their State. As an advocate for human rights, am going to focus on the factors that
can dismiss and calm down these harmful myths against immigrants and refugees as they hinder
development and interactions between the immigrants and the birth citizens of Canada.
One of the most popular myths against immigrants and refugees is that these foreigners
are not as qualified as the Canadian professionals when it comes to different fields of expertise.
In order to eliminate such a myth, all immigrants and refugees who wish to practice their
professions in Canada should be assessed by bodies that are credited by the Government of
Canada to verify the validity of professions (Gogia& Slade, 2011). If they are found qualified,
they should be allowed to work only in fields of specialization.
Another myth that is common in Canada against the foreigners is that they are a burden to
the economy of Canada. As most foreigners migrate for purpose of business, such a myth should
be calmed by categorizing the foreigners. If any immigrant is moving to Canada for business,
they should prove by having a net worth of $ 300, 000. This will ensure they don’t become a
burden while in Canada.
Canadians consider immigrants as the promoters of crimes in their state. This myth can
be banished if the citizens of Canada allow Justice Bodies conduct background checks on those
who are moving to Canada before they conclude that it is immigrants who cause crimes. This

will be important step as research has shown that Canadians who are citizens by birth have the
higher records of crimes than immigrants and refugees. In my career as an advocate for human
rights, I will ensure that all immigrants and refugees will not be judged by Canadian citizens as
they are all equal in the eyes of the law.
Immigrants are considered as the enemies of Canadians birth citizens as they move to
Canada and take away their jobs. Such a myth can be banished as these immigrants get employed
in low- skilled jobs which Canadians of the same qualification refuse to take as they are
desperate to earn a living (Gogia& Slade, 2011). It should be noted that even their qualifications
are not considered equal to those of Canadians in similar fields.
In conclusion, I will advocate for all immigrants and refugees should be treated equally
as any other citizen of Canada state. This can in turn lead to peaceful co-existence between
Canadians and the immigrants and refugees thus leading to economic growth.
