Project Management Report: Methodologies for Music Festival Project

INTRODUCTION
Project management is set of procedures, skills, methods and knowledge to achieve
particular objectives accordant to project acceptance criteria (de Carvalho, Patah and de Souza
Bido, 2015). The present report is based on Bucks' students union music festival. It explains the
three project management methodologies, network diagram and stakeholders analysis. It justifies
communication strategies, risk analysis and risk management strategies to reduce potential
problems.
TASK 1
Project management methods
Agile project management methodology-
According to Layton and Ostermiller, (2017) agile project management method is one of
the most popular project management methodology use for managing music festival effectively.
It is best suited for work that is incremental and iterative, agile is kind of procedure where
solutions and demand include through collaborative efforts of self managing, cross functional
groups and their clients. It analysed that this approach is in iterative method to delivering a
specific project throughout their life cycle.
Advantage-
The advantage of this methodology is that, while preparing plan for organizing function,
with the help of agile project manager test and check the procedure of work and activities related
to this continuously.
Disadvantage-
Agile consume more time and have less predictable, while waterfall methodology work
better, it is easy to manage and simple to understand.
Waterfall-
Despa, (2014) discussed that waterfall project approach considered as one of the
traditional project management methodologies, will use in managing the Bucks student's union
music festival. It is linear and systematic design approach where growth and success of project
flows downwards in one direction. It is linear project management method, where consumers and
stakeholder’s needs are collected at starting of project and then a chronological project plan is
developed to accommodate those demands.
Advantage-

The best thing about this approach is that as compare with other approaches, it focuses
most on a defined and clear set of steps. It helps to transfer information in effective manner
which in return cater many benefits.
Disadvantage-
This approach is based entirely on following a set of phase that keeps groups of people
always moving forward, it is the drawback of this method.
Scrum-
Usman, Soomro and Brohi, (2014) stated that scrum is the best project management
methodology, comprised of five values. Scrum methodology goal is to deliver, sustain and
develop complex services or products through accountability, interactive and collaboration
progress. It critically analysed that this model or approach suggest that projects growth via range
of sprints.
Advantage-
Instead of water fall method, project handle use this approach because waterfall project
methodology does not permit much revision or reflection through which individual cannot be
able to identify risks or any further issues which impact on their work.
Disadvantage-
Con of Scrum is that it is not much effective as compare to agile because it need to be
high level and experienced person, lack of experienced or knowledgeable individual scrum
procedure has some risks of scope creep.
Comparison between all above project management methodologies based on advantage
and disadvantages-
Agile is quite beneficial methodology as compare to waterfall and other, it helps to
provide high quality of services and products (Sohi and et.al., 2016). It allows organizer able to
make any changes require in success of work. With the help of testing and regular check-ups
project team will consider any problem which they can solve easily (Anand and Dinakaran,
2016).
On the other hand, waterfall project management methodology is good as compare to
agile and scrum. According to waterfall approach, project team follow each and every single
step, they never move forward until the before stages has been completed. When compared with
other methodologies, it is centring most on defined and clear set of phases.

As compare to above methodologies, Scrum is suitable for buck’s students’ union music
festival project (Mauro and et.al., 2017). It has adaptive and flexible structure that will be
changed according to the situations in order to achieve success of music festival. Innovation and
creativity is the advantage of Scrum methodology that helps to organized function in effective
manner. Due to less flexibility water fall is not appropriate for current case study. It critically
evaluate that with this method work is done by creating team simultaneously more than
sequentially.
TASK 2
Network plan, Gantt chart and critical path
Gantt chart-

Path 1: 1 + 2 +4 + 9+ 10 + 21+22
= 69 days
Path 2: 1 + 2 +5 + 9+ 10 + 21+22
= 70 days
Critical path-
It consist of longest sequence of actions from beginning of project to finish that should be
accomplished to assure work is finished by a fixed time period. In context of above critical path,
path one is appropriate for project manager as it help them to obtain desired outcome within 69
days.
TASK 3
Stakeholder analysis and work break down structure
Stakeholder matrix is project management technique used to analyse the different
stakeholders of project and also used to identify their actions which is essential to match
their goals with music festival project (Paletto, Hamunen and De Meo, 2015). It is used
while designing and planning a new project, it helps to define the interest of external and
internal stakeholders in work that impact on success of music festival. It is focuses on two
variables interest and power that influence each and every activity of planning function.

Project manager must satisfy their applicants while doing work, because it helps to
motivate and retain with business for longer. Employees are internal stakeholders, who are able
to make all arrangements in music festival. They hold power to change the entire function and
activities according to demand, their interest of work are highly beneficial for completing task
on time.
High power and low interested-
Consumers have power to modify procedure according to needs and place demand for
additional activities that influence music function the most. Project manager will work more
closely to clients and manage their needs effectively.
Keep monitor-
They are expert on business by increasing prices; they are less interested on success of
work more than focus on earning money.
Keep informed- High power and high interest
Manager keep informed to government about what they want to do, and take their
approval for further planning.
Work break down structure-

Communication strategies-
Project manager communicate with its team members or workers with the help of face to
face communication. It makes people able to convey message easily and directly with less
confusion. They can use this strategy to communicate with government and suppliers in regards
to organizing and managing music festivals.
In order to interact with consumers, project manager will use chat as communication
method that place clear conversation between both of them.
TASK 4
Risk analysis for five various risks that affect project
Risk analysis is procedure and action taken by project manager to determine and analyse
potential problems that negatively impact on initial stage of planning music festival (Chien, Wu
and Huang, 2014). With the help of risk analysis team consider the issues in order to help
management of project avoid those risks. While conducting specific task or project, handler can
identify varied types of risks that affect on work and create barriers to obtain desire outcomes.
