Musical festival plays crucial role in elevating economic growth as it contributes a larger part in
overall development of nation. In addition to that, it consist of various issue to be addressed such
as social issue, environmental and impact on tourism, hospitality and event industry. This project
report will address challenges along with recommendation in order to eliminate issue.

INTRODUCTION
Music festival may be referred as a community event having performances of instrument playing
and singing often based on a theme such as musical genre, locality of musicians or on nationality
(Prayag, 2020). They are organised by organisations and individuals within network of music
production or with music industries and education. Music festival is considered as one of the
largest and important performance institution in music life. These festivals are held outdoors
with roofed stages and tents for the performers. Music festivals host attracts various business
such as merchandising vending, dance, crafts, food and other social and cultural activities. Most
of the festivals are held on a regular interval basis and some held only once. Some the these
events are organised for charity purpose and some for profit. Music festival has becomes an
emerging industry in few years as it contributes in economic growth of company. Music festivals
varies from country to country and reflects culture, tradition and custom in their performance
(Dredge and Gyimóthy, 2017). In almost every country music festivals are held on a regular
quarterly or yearly basis. There are various business which are dependent on music festivals and
it helps them in earning livelihood. There are various music festivals and includes many genres
but some festivals are based on single genre such as metal, EDM and hip hop. In addition to that,
contemporary festivals are represented as flourishing grounds for thrilling and extraordinary
experience as they are serving increasingly so as to cultural identity. This project report is based
on music festivals along with analysis of impact on hospitality, tourism and events industry and
social and environmental impacts. At last, it will cover recommendation to eliminate those issue
and to minimise its impact.

Opportunities in tourism industry
Music festivals are not just about tunes but it is an atmosphere which drives people in
hordes to them. Music festivals is attracting tourists from all over the world and there are various
opportunities in tourism industry which business can grab on. It is highly dependent on music
festivals as in recent years there can be seen a boom in this industry. This concept also works for
less known cities and towns and to host festivals or it may be overlooked by tourists (Khalid and

Shahid, 2017). Tourism based industries are emerging in small cities to support and boost era of
music festivals. Revenues generation from these festivals contributes a larger part in elevating
bottom line of music industry. People from all over the world are coming to enjoy music
festivals and iyt have contributed to uplift tourism industry.
Impact on event industry
Music festivals plays a crucial role in uplifting event industry as managing an event is
complex process and thus needs professionals who can able to handle various challenges in order
to make festival successful. There are various companies who undertakes responsibility to
organise music festival and in return charges a nominal amount. In recent years, there can be
seen a drastic change in event industry as it links with other business units too which gets
supported by music festivals to survive. Event industry is emerging by the emergence musical
era.
Impact on hospitality business
Due to COVID-19, hospitality industry is highly affected as there is complete restriction
on social gathering and many business have to shut their business. Hosting festivals attracts
tourists all over the world and it contributes in uplifting hospitality industry (Douglass and et.al.,,
2022). These festivals allows tourist in increasing length of staying which leads to generation of
higher profit. So festivals and events encourages tourist to elevate their staying duration which is
beneficial for tourism business. Local authorities are focusing on conducting music festivals as to
fulfil economic objectives. There are various visitors across the world come to enjoy music
festival and therefore there can be seen a positive change in hospitality industry. Many hotel and
resorts near venue of music festival provides accommodation services. This will help tourist and
company too as it contributes in profit generation. In addition to that, visitors needs
accommodation services to stay and makes it convenient for tourist to stay.
Environmental Impact
Impact of host city carbon footprint
As music festival attracts visitor across the world and due to this it increases carbon
footprint of host country. It requires transportation and social gathering leads to increased
pollution. In music festivals, burning of pyro and firecracker releases toxic gases which serves to
air pollution. Due to bursting of firecracker, the level of RSPM (Respirable Suspended
Particulate Material) (Gjerde and et.al., 2019). These toxic gases are harmful for human health

and contributes in various health issues such as bronchitis and asthma. It has been analysed that
two third of carbon emission in music festival is generated by attendee travel which does not
include staffs and performers. In recent years, there can be seen a drastic change in pollution
level and the AQI shows poor after the festival gets over. It is a severe problem and thus needed
to be addressed and should be taken corrective actions to minimise this challenge.
Environmental impact in extra waste
At the end of music festival, it is worth reflecting that how much it damages environment
. There is no room for music festivals in order to become environmental friendly as attendees are
leaving their bags. In musical festivals. Attendees throws waste in any place and this damages
environment. Event organisers are offering soft drink in plastic cans and glasses in order to
minimise overall cost. Due to overcrowding, people are not throwing their plastic waste in
dustbins. Recent studies have found that, 44% of the tents are found left at festivals and these
tents are complicated to recycle and time consuming too (Andersson, Armbrecht and Lundberg,
2012). Many attendees forget their daily responsibility to drop their packaging into dustbins. It is
needed to take serious actions so as to eliminate this issues and make environment clean.
Impact of construction work needed
It is needed to have a infrastructure which attracts a large number of visitors and must eb
taken into consideration in music festivals. Not having facilities for tourist such as fresh water
supply, infrastructure facility and transportation facility can disappoint visitors. Construction of
building and its impact can adversely affect on music festival. Creation of infrastructure can lead
to increased pollution and extra waste can negatively impact on environment. Making an
infrastructure for music festival affects environment as leads to increased pollution.
Social Impact
The impact on local residents
Music festivals attracts tourists from all over world and it impacts on local residents in
many aspects as they have to pay higher prices to daily products as the prices are generally
higher in those places. In addition to that, they can influenced by the musical festival by
engaging with people from different background. In addition to that, they can also take benefit of
better facilities and infrastructure which have been developed for tourist. This will positively
benefit tourist. Government and event organisers are focused on generating revenue from music
festivals but social impact have profound effect on quality life of local communities. In the two

hosting a music festival, it helps in sharing of thoughts, views of different culture and can be a
sense of pride for nation (Bachman and et.al., 2017). People from all over world can exchange
their thoughts and views along with cultural dimension.
Issues related to crime
Along with enjoyment in music festivals there are various crimes faced by attendees such
as drugs, theft, sexual crimes and violence. It is common now a days all these issues but must be
take serious actions to minimise them . Attendees are theft by local residents or by other
attendees. In a statistics report, it has been shown that 1 in 500 festival goers are victim in crime
and 1 in 640 are being pickpocketed (Borges, Cunha and Lopes, 2021). Many people are engages
in violence which may cause destruction of festival property or it may lead to stoppage of
festival. This makes attendees disappointed and many of them are being theft. These festivals
invites drug paddlers and serves crime at place of enjoyment. People are sexually abused by
many people and takes advantage of overcrowding. This makes a threat for people to go at music
festival.
Recommendation
Music festivals serves a larger part in development of economic growth as it attracts visitors
from all over the world and generates revenue. Along with various benefits, there are various
issues which needs to be addressed so as to make successful. Government have to take in charge
of music festivals and organiser should take care of pollution emitted from pyro and firecracker.
In addition to that, to minimise carbon footprint, organiser can opt a shuttle bus from closet of
station till destination. It will minimise carbon footprint of host country. It contributes in
supporting hospitality and tourism industry and government have to take necessary steps in
encouraging visitors to have a look on music festivals and can by making infrastructure along

with transportation facilities. In order to minimise extra waste in music festival, it is needed to
take corrective measures so as to save environment and to minimise its negative impact.
Organiser should encourage and pay $5 for each disposable item when deposited at designated
points. This will help both attendees and organisers too along with environment. Carbon
footprints to be controlled or it will negatively impact company in various ways. Organiser
should make sure that sell packed food in soft plastic bags and encourage attendees to throw in
dustbin after consumption. Moreover, local residents are facing high price issues and must eb
addressed as they have to pay high prices of daily consumption products. Government must
taken action to resolve this issue and provide guidelines for vendors. This will help local
residents in eliminating this issue and can enjoy facilities which are rendered to tourists. In
addition to that, the crime rates should be lowered and for that, a specific team needs to be
appointed to ensure these crime would not happen. There should be strict guidelines for these
crimes and culprit should be punished, if found guilty. People from all over world have different
perception and based on that they may perceive wrong due to communication barrier but can be
resolved by mutual understanding.

CONCLUSION
From the above project report, it was concluded that music festival plays crucial role in
elevating economic growth of country and should be encouraged by government so as to attract
visitors across the world which supports various business industries. Along with benefits, there
ate various issues which needs to be addressed. As music festival contributes in increasing
festivals by using pyro and firecrackers and carbon footprints of vehicles which can be resolved
by appointing shuttle bus from closet station. The other issue of extra waste can be eliminated by
encouraging attendees to throw waste in dustbins. There are various crimes happening at musci
festivals as attendees are theft and pickpocketed by people. This challenges can be addressed by
appointing a specific team which keeps an eye on such people.
