Running Head: MUSIC IS GOOD FOR HEALTH
In the article,” IS MUSIC A GOOD TOOL FOR HEALTH’ by Elizabeth Scott, the
author states, that the music is the key to divert the minds of the people and reduce the stress
and depression of the people. She says that listening to music will help the person in calming
down from the current state of mind and also helps them to analyse the problem from a fresh
perspective (Nilsson & Uddholm, 2017). She also states that the hospitals now days are using
music therapy to deal with management, to remove pain of patients and various other
benefits. I agree because in various rehabilitation centres and in various hospitals for mental
health, music plays a vital role in reviving the mental health of the concerned person. To
begin with the topic, ‘IS MUSIC A GOOD TOOL FOR YOUR HEALTH’, music is an
important source of improving the mental health of the people .According to the article”
Faster beats bring sharper concentration and more alert thinking (Radcliffe & Porterfield,
2018).
Slower beats promote a calm, meditative state.” In the other words, poor mental
health leads to wrong and inefficient decision making which will provide a negative impact
on the person, but providing music therapy to a person with poor mental health will help in
improving the mind-set of the person which will help in having a fresh and a positive
approach to the problem. I can certainly relate to my personal example as I lost my closest
friend in an accident who died in front of my eyes caused me pain and agony (Caló, et al
2019). The accident had affected my mental health which had led to wrong decision making.
I visited a therapist who initially suggested me music therapy and which helped me a lot in
improving my mental health. As the article points out the connection between mental health
and music therapy, such therapy helps in bolstering the negative emotions such as sadness,
mental trauma etc. Furthermore, music also helps in improving the exercise which will
provide both physical as well as mental boost to the person who is facing such mental issues.
As the article states, music also helps in providing positive energy in the area in which I am

spending my time. I personally listen to music while taking shower, while gyming, while
walking on the street, etc. Listening to music has also helped me in easing pain as well as
improving my memories for all sadness and sorrows which I have personally gone through in
my life. This reminds me of the situation when I was about to have a tonsils operation at the
age of 15, I used to listen music for easing my pain. The music not only eased my pain but it
also provides me a comfort by reducing fear of the operation (Very mind well, 2019).
Hence at the end it can be concluded that music has its own language and when
observed it has helped a lot of people. Music not only helps in defining the new language but
it also creates a new atmosphere. Therefore I personally agree with the author’s idea of music
is a good tool for health. Music enlightens mind and soul and hence, it is an important tool in
improving health.
