1MYTHOLOGY
Introduction
The aim of this essay is to discuss about the correlation between the myths of the past and
comparing it with the present society. The comparison must be aligned with the conditions of the
incidents of the modern society indeed. The myth that has been chosen for this assignment is that
of Zeus (Graves 2017). The comparison that will be made with this myth is that with the current
United States President Donald Trump. As many historical myths have come to similar to some
incidents of the contemporary society, this one might also be similar in some sorts as well. A
better insight can be found by comparing the myth of Zeus with that of Donald Trump.
Description of myth of Zeus
The myth that would be discussed in this section is of Zeus. According to the
mythological scholars, Zeus is considered as the God of thunder and sky in the ancient Greek
religion (Hamilton 2017). He has been considered as one of the most powerful gods in the
mythology. From the notes on the mythology it has been found that Zeus was the one who used
to threaten the common people with his bim who did not listen to his words or orders. Though
he was the protector of the world, many negative shades of the character of Zeus had been found
as well in the Greek mythology (Graves 2017). As per the various sources, it had been said that
he used to abuse several women sexually. He used to make the things just in the way he thought
to. He was not all in favor of consulting with other gods and finally come to the ultimate
conclusion. He always wanted to dictate the orders to the other gods and the people on the earth
(Slater 2014).
However, he used to threaten all the people who went against him. It has also been told in
the Greek myth that Zeus had stolen Europa in the shape of a bull. After that Zeus had

completely ravished her (Hamilton 2017). This is an instance of how much sadistic Zeus was in
his treatment of the women. In the myth of Greece, it has been also told that some of the
Goddesses had also suffered in the hands of the gods like Zeus. This was an addition to the
human women (Haslett 2016).
Comparison with the modern society
It can be compared to the current United States President Donald Trump whose life is
also like the same events of assaulting and abusing women sexually. He also dictates his men to
follow his orders blindly as well. He has been accused of the sexual misconduct over the women
a great many times (Abramovitz 2017). This is why many people were not at all happy with the
selection of Trump as the President Elect. Many powerful men have been alleged of the sexual
misconduct several times since they have used their power to get rid of these allegations.
However, Donald Trump is yet to face any kind of allegations regarding this fact. About 20
women have alleged Donald Trump about the sexual harassments they have faced (Slater 2014).
However, Trump has readily denied all the allegations that have come up against him in
the whirlwind of accusations (Abramovitz 2017). These accusations had been lodged between
1970s and 2013. This reminds of the fact that he has all the legitimate power to wash off these
allegations. There have been several types of the allegations like groping, ogling, harassments
and even rape. His extreme power as the President of the United States will be a very important
one so he could be able to escape all these allegations. He has only said that these accusations to
be completely false and called those women to be ‘liars’ (Kerényi 2016). Apart from these sexual
allegations, Trump has always been pushing the limits of his Presidential power. Generally the
President of the United States of America has some specific powers but Mr. Trump is definitely

trying to get more of it in some certain ways. He wants to run the show just as the monarchs used
to exercise the power in the medieval times (Kerényi 2016).
In the contemporary times, this could be taken as one of the biggest issues in the political
aspects since the leadership of Trump has not been accepted by a big range of people (Slater
2014). However, this could be highly compared to that of Zeus in Greek mythology since the
practice of his sovereign power had been devastating to some aspects as well. Thus Zeus, at the
top of the pantheon could be directly compared to Zeus in numerous ways indeed. He lived on
the Mount Olympus that could well be considered as the centre of power during that time.
Though he was married to Hera, he was alleged to be a serial rapist and a womanizer at the same
time (Hamilton 2017). According to the mythological records, he abducted almost as 60 women
and later forced himself on to them. This suggests that he used to torture these women serially
and very badly as well. This effect of Zeus has been seen in the contemporary times in Donald
Trump who captivated the women through his power and richness (Haslett 2016).
Conclusion
As per the above discussion, it can be concluded that Zeus has been compared to Donald
Trump since the use of his power has been very much over his limits. Zeus used to abduct and
force himself onto various women. This means his habit of sexually harassing women could be
taken as something negative. As Zeus had been looked as an oppressor to some extent it would
really be important for the common people of the country to protest against this kind of violence.
It would really be considered as a very important factor for the comparison for the two characters
to be considered in a way so the Greek myth can be compared with that of the modern
contemporary society.
