1. Discuss what the Navy’s Core Values (Honor, Courage and
Commitment) mean to you and how you think they will apply to you as
a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy.
Honor, courage and commitment are the three pillars of the U.S navy. Honor is regarded as
the primary and most important aspect of the U.S navy (Feiller, 2013). According to me honor
signifies giving respect to others. Both the civilians and the non-civilians should be respected
equally, irrespective of their color and culture. Moreover, honor signifies that the lives and
security of the civilians are to be regarded as having highest importance. Whereas, courage is
regarded as the most important quality of Navy (Bagozzi et al., 2013). In this profession courage
I regarded as the primary necessity where an individual serving in Navy is able to face any
situation and is willing to save the country. Moreover, the third pillar of the Navy is commitment
(O'Hara, 2017). For the Navy, commitment is highly significant as the professionals need to have
the willingness to protect the country every day. They have to be ever ready to obey the order of
the seniors and be ready to face any situation.
As a commissioned officer of the U.S navy, I think the three pillars will play significant
roles. The core values teach me to be more responsible to my profession, other cadets and above
all, to my country (Hill, 2015). Moreover, courage and commitment urges me to practice and
enhance my leadership qualities. Moreover, these core values teach me to be a professional
having high integrity and strong personality. In addition to this, from the core values I learn the
qualities to be able to obey the orders and stay committed to serve the nation.
