Introduction
Corona virus, the term is enough to set terror throughout the world. The global
outbreak of the disease having taken a toll on the overall mortality and morbidity of the
human race while casting a significant financial impact over the World’s Trade Center. The
with the numerical death toll of the disease exceeding more than 1000 globally, Due to the
recent outbreak of the Corona virus throughout the world, National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCCA) Division I is planned to secure one extra year of eligibility for the
spring athletes whose lost their seasons due to this pandemic (NCAA, 2020). In this blog we
are going to discuss the norms laid by NCAA for the student athletes and how it is helpful for
them and overall financial impact of the decision.

Discussion
According to the financial analysis reported published by officials of NCAA,
providing an additional season for sports eligibility for the senior spring athletes would cost
public schools in the Power Five conferences around $500,000 to $900,000. The schools that
fall outside the Power Five would experience lower amount of costs. However, FCS schools
that have comparatively rigorous spring sports activity might be looking at a cost around

$400,000. However, for the schools that are experiencing amounts significantly lower than
the additional revenue needed – even under the best circumstances is extremely hard to come
by.
The outlay would grow dramatically if and only if the opinion for a overall
replacement of eligibility were to be sanctioned for significantly more than one class. The
NCAA Division I council consists of 40 administrators across all the division I conferences.
NCAA Division I council has voted in favour of additional one year of coverage for the
sports athletes. This would help them to restore their spirit towards sports and at the same
time, it would also help the college sports team to stay motivated and stay positive while
continuing the self-practice session for the upcoming session in the next year.
The main sports category that are impacted due to this pandemic outbreak of Corona
virus include baseball, tennis, golf, softball, track and other famous college level sports.
However, the winter sport athletes who had their sports seasons cut short due to pandemic
outbreak like the men’s basketball players, who are unable to take part in the post-season
tournaments will not be allowed an relaxation of additional one year. The NCAA members
have declines to extend the overall eligibility of the student-athletes in the college sports
where all or much of their regular seasons’ session are completed.
NCAA regulations and norms mainly restrict the students to four different seasons of
tournaments during five-year period. Due to the present pandemic of the Corona virus, the
school’s administrative boards will be able to apply for a waiver. This waiver will be
generated in order to restore one year of competition for the student-athlete who was poised
to complete while being eligible for a sport session that is suddenly shortened by the outbreak
of the Corona virus. On the other hand, the seniors those who are eligible to return for
another session, initially determined the limit of scholarship, will be amended to

accommodate the senior sports athletes and the freshers. However, the schools will have sole
authority to make the required modifications in the domain of financial aid provided to the
athletes. Schools will also receive permit the make use of the NCAA’s Student Assistance
Fund to pay for the season’s additional scholarships.
Overall, it can be said that NCAA officials are doing their best in order to restore the
free spirit of the student athletes in the tough time of the corona virus outbreak. Overall it
would be out duty to maintain strict social isolation and pray for faster recovery from this
nightmare.
