NCCA Sports Scandal

 In the year 2017, various coaches of NCCA (National
Collegiate Athletic Association) , an agent and a sports apparel
company were found illegally profiting from the branding
opportunities for the young players of basketball.
 Its basic cause is the receipt of huge amount of money by the
association along with the universities from the ‘sports apparel
brands ‘(Rosenberg, 2017) .
 While the student athletics are expected to wear the apparel of
these companies and to play whole heartily for the love of
basketball.
Synopsis of the NCCA Sports scandal

 The scandal occurred:
 When two of the students belonging to the association began
to publicize their entrepreneurial skills publicly .
 Upon this, NCCA threatened them with ineligibility as their
website mentioned that they were both swimmers .
 This shows that NCCA has banned its students from
promoting their skills openly so that it can make money from
their talent instead(Staples, 2018).
When did the event occur

 As a result of the scandals :
 The coaches of NCAA had to bear huge amount of financial and
other costs .
 The financial costs included $179,000 including self imposed
sanctions .
 Other costs included issuances of show cause notices to the
coaches due to which there was a loss of goodwill of the
association in the market (Greer,2018).
 There have been a decrease in donations, season ticket sales and
enrollment numbers due to the fraud.
Financial and other cost occurred to the association due to the scandal

 Due to the scandals , the public is losing trust in college
sports (Wolf , 2017).
 NCAA also used to regulate snacks which were available for
the players . After huge oppositions , it had to lift up the
limits on the snacks (Kessler,2015).
 It was accused to be powerless and unaware of the frauds and
scandals committed by its coaches.
Various ways the scandal cost the institution

 Hence to conclude , it can be said that :
 NCAA has to introduce fundamental changes in its working if
it wants to operate successfully in the college sports .
 Lastly, it also has to lift up the limits on the snacks available
to the student athletes else it shall face legal and financial
penalties in the court .
