INTRODUCTION
Globalization refers to the integration of people, product, services, ideas or technology across
the global borders. In other words, the interdependence of different nations for exchanging the
goods or services is called globalization. There are various benefits of globalization such as it
improves the standard of living, increases job opportunities, modernization as well as it brings
access to goods and services. However, there is a negative effect of globalization of the
economies of the more developed nations because it destroys job opportunities. Globalization
can be an opportunity or challenge for large multinational companies as they get a better mix of
workers, culture, and resources (Hirst et al., 2015). These organizations make the globalization
as a tool of gaining competitive advantage by reducing the cost of operations in the global
market. They purchase the raw material at the lower rate and sell it into a higher price in the
international market. The globalization requires that multinational companies must change
their operations matching the needs of the global market. This is because the global market is
composed of different cultures, nationalities, ethnic background as well as religions. These
organizations work on a single platform combining all the features of the local market. The
culture of the organization integrates the people of different countries with the people located
in the developing the world. This project focuses on the human resource policy of the Nestle
that emphasis on the sound and efficient policy of human resource management. The HRM
policy of Nestle includes the training, recruitment, selection, individual responsibility,
commitment to lifelong learning as well as strong leadership are the necessary characteristics
of the managers of Nestle. The successful implementation of the research project depends on
proper planning and execution of the strategies on time so that the objectives of the research
project should be achieved (Baylis et al., 2017).

"How do multinational companies improve the recruitment, selection, and training of their
employees to meet international requirements? A case study of Nestle"
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Nestle is the world's largest manufacturer and seller of food and beverages products with a
history of 135 years and has operations in almost all countries. The company is dealing with
more 2000 brands and their main purpose is to contribute to a healthy life and improve the
quality of life. In this manner, the company is contributing to the world and this is the sole
reason for their success. It believes that the success of the company is not because of its
building, factory physical assets or brands but the success story was written with the help of
human resources of the company. The human resources of the company comprised of a
different religion, ethical background, and nationalist. But they all are working together in the
single and unifying corporate culture. The HR policy of the company deals with the training,
recruitment, and selection of the people (Akhtar et al., 2017). In order to make unifying culture,
the company provides proper on-the-job training, coaching and guiding to improve the quality
of the products and services. The company does not use informal training programs to improve
the skills and competencies but there is a proper formal structure to train all the employees
from different backgrounds so that they are capable to meet the international requirements.
Therefore, this project report will help to gain in-depth knowledge about the HRM policy of the
Nestle to meet the international requirements for training, recruitment, and selection.

PROJECT AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The main purpose of conducting the research project is to find out the importance of training,
recruitment, and selection for improving the skills of their employees so that they are able to
meet the international requirements. In order to achieve this aim following are the set
objectives:
To analyze the impact of cultural background and religion on the Nestlé’s operation.
To analyze the importance of training for unifying the corporate culture.
To analyze the requirement of HRM policy to meet the international requirements.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN
A project management plan is a formal document to determine and define each step of the
project. The main aim of preparing the project t management plan is to define the outcome of
the project, how it can achieve, what steps should be involved to achieve the objectives and it
can be communicated and used for obtaining the fruitful result (Meredith et al., 2017). It
includes all the relevant information for the parties and stakeholders involved in the project for
taking their decisions. Following are the important elements used in the project management
plan:
Cost
The cost of the project helps in determining the budget required to complete the project and
identifying any shortfalls. The cost element includes all the financial expenses incurred in the
project such as labor, cost of planning and allocating the resources and also how the company
can control and avoid some cost (Kerzner, 2017). The estimated budget for this project is
£15,000. The activities and resources of the project include the following:

Scope means the boundaries and limitations set by the company for identifying the importance
of training, recruitment, and selection of employees for meeting the international
requirements. It only includes the importance of different HRM functions for the company and
does not include its importance for employees. In addition to this, the project takes the time of
10 weeks for completing all its steps. Also, this project considers only the requirement of HRM
functions and no other aspects for meeting the international requirements (Fewings and
Henjewele, 2019).
Time
Time is a very important element for completing and getting the result on time because it helps
the company in taking the decision. Any delay in project result will lose its relevance to the
company. Time has a direct relationship with all the elements of project I.e. scope, quality,
information required and the resources available with the company. The time required to
complete this whole project is 10 weeks and the milestone set for each activity is shown in the
following table:

With the help of quality management, the researcher ensures that all the activities of the
project must be completed within the time limit. The manager of the project also pays attention
to manage the quality of the report and for this, he pays attention to the daily activity of the
team members. The manager uses the quality assurance and quality control method to
maintain the quality of the project (Fleming and Koppelman, 2016).
Communication
The communication methods used in the project are both verbal and written. The manager and
team members communicate through email, messages, and calls. In addition to this, the

manager regularly and frequently organizes the meeting for planning future actions (Rosemann

Risk
Every project has some amount of risk, but in this project, the manager considers the risk of
lack of funds and time. These uncertainties can be avoided through proper planning and
allocation of financial resources. Each activity of the project is properly defined and assigned to
individuals without any confusions and ambiguity (Burtonshaw-Gunn, 2017).
Resources
The resource required to complete the whole project is human resource, financial resource as
well as other materials i.e. stationary, internet and so forth (Kieser et al., 2015). These
resources successfully helped in completing the whole project. The estimated budget for the
project is £15,000 and 8-10 members are required as human resources for successfully
accomplishes the whole project.
Work breakdown structure (WBS)
WBS is a structure that helps in dividing the complex process of the project into a small and
manageable task so that it becomes simple for the team to complete each stage within the time
limit (Ashtiani et al, 2017). The WBS of this project is shown with the following chart:

Gantt chart
Gantt chart is used to visually represent the time required to complete each activity of the
project. It is divided into two axes horizontal axis shows the time required in days or weeks and

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH METHOD
According to Beck (2018), globalization can be termed as the integration and interdependence
of the different economies that allow sharing and exchanging the goods, services, ideas or
technologies across the borders. Globalization plays a very important role in expanding its
business and satisfying the different needs of the people. Qualitative research method helps to
gain the knowledge of practices used by the multinational companies to prepare their
employees according to the requirement of the international market by taking an example of
Nestle.
Baran (2016) also says that as the Nestle expand its business in the international market, it
becomes compulsory for them to make changes in their practices so that their employees will
also be able to meet the needs of the international market. HR department faces lots of
challenges and complexities in meeting the demands of the global market because they hire the
employees from different ethnic background, religion, and culture. The globalization has a
direct impact on the HR policies that affect the existing and new employees of the Nestle. Even
Nestle wants to unite the organizational culture and for achieving this objective the company
focuses on on-the-job training as well its recruitment and selection approach.
As per the opinion of Anghel et al., (2018) in order to minimize the impact of cultural
background and diverse culture of employees in the Nestle, it uses on-the-job training which
includes coaching, internship training, and job instruction. The management of the Nestle
expects that all the employees will follow the instructions given to them and also their work is
also supported with the guidance of the superior.
The company follows the same approach for recruiting and selection all over the world so that
the candidate does not feel that the company is biased and differentiate them on the basis of
age, caste, religion, etc. The company follows two methods of recruitment i.e. internal source
of recruitment which includes transfer and promotion but it is suitable for the top position.

However for filling the lower vacant position the company uses campus recruitment,
employment agencies, and exchanges (Stone and Deadrick, 2015).
Buse (2016) says that the steps of selection used in the Nestle for improving the international
market are shortlisting the candidate based on the pre-defined criteria, conducting aptitude
test for testing their analytical and descriptive skills, group discussions, final interview, physical
examination and then offering a job. The management of the Nestle follows the same
approach in all countries in which it operates. Following the same approach enhances the
reputation of the company in the international market.
QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH METHOD
The quantitative research method is completed by asking certain questions to the management
team of the Nestle. The primary data of the quantitative research method is collected through a
survey questionnaire. The data is collected by asking the questions to 20 respondents i.e. the
top executive of the company. The data is collected by sending the questionnaire to top
executives via e-mail. The sampling method used to select the candidate is non-probability
sampling as all the respondents are selected before preparing the questionnaire (Brannen,
2017). The survey questionnaires used for collecting primary data are as follows:
