INTRODUCTION
Netflix is an American company which is founded in the year 1997 and is well-known for
their top content platform as well as production. This report is going to contain the mission and
values of Netflix with the management style followed in the company in order to manage their
operations. It also contain the major challenge for Netflix ‘Battle of the Streaming Giants’ and
the management of the Cultural Reinvention in the company to manage this challenge.

About company
Netflix is a large organisation which has been operating from the year 1997. The
company initially deals with selling of DVDs . After some time with the increased use of mobile
applications and websites they has introduced an online entertainment content for their users in
which they offer variety of shows including shows and web series. It is due to the shared content
and the collection of the company that they are able to become leading entertainment service
provider all over the world. In the recent times, at the time of pandemic company has recorded a
great rise in their used in which they get 26 Million new users for the company and enhanced
their subscriber base to reach at 200 millions. The vision, values and mission of the company are
given below:
Vision of the Company: The Vision of Netflix is to provide a platform to the film makers and
content creator to reach the global audience by becoming best entertainment service distributor
all over the world.
Mission of the company: The Mission of the company is to enhance their subscription business
by continuous improvement in their customers experience in domestic as well as global market.
Values of Netflix: Values of Netflix includes communication, curiosity, integrity, inclusion,
selflessness and many many more.
Preferred style of management practices
Bold leadership style is followed in the workplace of Netflix where the management provides so
many benefits to their employees. The CEO of Netflix Reed Hastings provide in an interview
that they take a great risk of trusting their employees in the company by providing them a lot of
freedom in the company. Th employees in Netflix are awarded by unlimited vacations, No

approval expenses, no dress codes and also provide promotions to their employees for criticizing
the company. These benefits to the employees shows a lot of freedom to the employees in the
workplace in which leaders are required to be bold enough to provide such benefits and that is
the reason the company has bold style of leadership. He also added that it is better to take this
risk in the company to become a creative company instead of lack of innovation in the
organisation which can be very harmful for the companies like Netflix which is known for its
creativity. All this helps the management of Netflix to create a flexible working environment in
the company and helps the company to get feedback from their employees for their development.
Important challenges that are faced by Netflix
In the time of COVID 19, when Netflix gets such a large number of subscribers for their
company, they has also analysed a large competition in market which become a great challenge
to the company. The CEO of the company has analysed that there is a “Battle of the Streaming
Giants” in the market. These Streaming giants are the companies who create a large competition
for the content of Netflix with the help of unique and interesting content on their applications and
sited like Disney plus, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Videos, Apple TV Plus and many more. In
order to sustain in the market Netflix is required to take effective steps to win this challenge. The
CEO of the company has addressed an issue of cultural reinvention in their organisation in his
book of 'No Rules Rules'. The Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix is require to go through a cultural
reinvention in their company which is the important challenge during this time of high
competition in the market. Netflix is famous for their creativity and different content and the
management is required to work hard to overcome this challenge of market. In order to deal with
the high competition Netflix has great competencies in their manager due to their flexible work
environment. The two effective competencies in management of Netflix are their decision
making power and creativity. The ways these competencies of management will help Netflix to
overcome this challenge is given below:
Creativity: In order to meet this challenge of Cultural reinvention, Netflix is require to take care
that they are able to maintain the creativity of their employees with the help of their new cultural
policies. Creativity is very essential especially in the entertainment industry as consumers are
becoming so particular for their taste and preferences. The freedom provided by the leader has
helped the employees to manage themselves for the benefits of the company which helps them to

the consumers. The CEO of the company has adopted a culture of feedback in the workplace
which helps Netflix to provide them drawbacks of the company. The leader of the company
believes to have a creative team and that is the reason he has taken a risk of providing greater
benefits to their employees. The leadership of Reed Hastings will help the company Netflix in
this time when the creative personnels of the company will select effective content for the
company which will help them to win this battle of streaming Giants in the market.
Decision making: The main focus of the company Netflix with the help of their new policies to
improve organisational culture should be focused on the decision making abilities of the
company. A proper and required authority should be provided to the employees for quick
decision making in the company during the cultural reinvention process. Decision making is an
essential part of management which will help the Netflix to take effective decisions regarding the
strategies company should opt to overcome these challenges. The freedom which has been
provided by CEO of Netflix has helped the management of the company to make the employees
motivate and feel connected to the organisation. The risk which has been taken by the leader to
provide excessive freedom to their employees will proven to be worthy in the case of this high
competition in the market. It is because of this flexibility that the employees and management
can make quick and effective decisions for the betterment of the company.
CONCLUSION
The above discussion helps to conclude that the CEO of Netflix is a great leader who
chooses to take risk in the organisation to provide better benefits to their employees. It helps the
employees to keep themselves managed and enhance their creativity and decision making power
which helps the company to deal with challenge of Battle of streaming Giants.
