Practical Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment details the configuration of several essential network services, including DHCP, WEB server, DNS, and a firewall, within a simulated network environment. The solution provides step-by-step instructions for configuring a DHCP server to dynamically allocate IP addresses, setting up a WEB server and a DNS server to host web content and resolve domain names, and configuring a firewall to filter network traffic. The configuration processes are illustrated with screenshots and include commands for routers and servers. The assignment covers IP address assignments, subnetting, and the use of services like HTTP and DNS. The document provides a comprehensive guide to network configuration, demonstrating how to set up and manage these crucial network components, which is useful for any student studying networking.

Task 2
Configuring Network Services
The below is the network designed from task 1, however it is going to used to do the below tasks in task
2.
1. DHCP: Configure DHCP on the server.
The server in this server will be converted to DHCP server, this is to enable the dynamic
allocation of the IP addresses to the devices connected to the network as follows :
Step 1
Rename server 0 to be DHCP server, then click on it once to open as below.

Step 2
After opening the above screen ,select the desktop options ,then IP configuration as
below:
Step 3
Select the static option then enter the following .
a. IP address: 192.168.30.4
b. Subnet mask address:255.255.255.0
c. Default gateway addresses : 192.168.30.8
d. DNS server address: 192.168.30.9
To get below screen.

Step 4
To make this server as a DHCP server select the services options then DHCP server and
select the DHCP option to be on as below.
Step 5
Set the following in the configuration.
a. Pool’s name: dhcpserver.
b. Default gateway address: 192.168.30.8
c. DNS server’s address: 192.168.30.9
d. Start IP address: 192.168.30.0
e. Subnet masks address:255.255.255.0
f. Maximum users:255
After entering the above respective values then click on the add and save button to make
changes and get window below.

Step 6
Open PC 2 then select the desktop option ,then IP configurations ,then DHCP to get the
IP address from the DHCP server as below.
2. WEB Server: Configure a WEB server on dedicated machine
To configure the WEB server one need to add another server in this network then follow
steps as follows:
Step 1:
Add a new server on the network and name it as the WEB/DNS server.

Step 2:
Open the WEB/DNS server then select the config option and then select DHCP under the
gateway/DNS as below.
Step 2
Then select the services then the HTTP option as below and in the HTTP set it to be on in
order to make this a web server machine, finally edit the web pages according to how they will
be displayed in the web browsers as below( James ,2014).

3. DNS: Configure a DNS Server on the server device.
To design the DNS server we use the same server with the WEB server and are
configured as below.
Step 1.
Open the WEB/DNS server by clicking it once ,then select on the options and select
desktop option as below.
Step 2
Select the desktop option ,then the IP configuration option in order to retrieve the IP
addresses from the DHCP server to the DNS server as below by selecting the DHCP option
instead of static option where the IP address will be displayed automatically as below.

Select on computer like PC2, open it and choose the web browser as below and key in the
website link as parneet.csu.edu.au and it will be displayed in the web browser as follows.
Therefore the DNS and WEB server are successfully configured.
4. Firewall: Configure traffic filtering on the router blocking the clients PC and a
WEB server.
To setup the firewall in the network ,the filter is configured in the target devices ,for our
case wish to block TCP traffic between the clients computer PC0 and the WEB server as follows
(Thomas, 2014).
Step 1.
Configure router R1 to deny the PC1 from accessing the WEB/DNS server IP address
192.168.30.9 using the following commands:
Router> enable
Router# configure terminal
Router(config)#access-list 1 deny host 192.168.30.9

Step 2.
Configure router R2 to deny the WEB/DNS server from accessing the PC1 IP address
192.168.50.2 using the following commands:
Router> enable
Router# configure terminal
Router(config)#access-list 1 deny host 192.168.50.2
