Introduction:
The assignment aims to build an understanding of design and analysis of network requirement.
This helps to understand the theories and concept that is related to implementation and design of
the network. According to the scenario of assignment Skill force, IT is a company for computer
system integration. The task is to design a new network solution for the client named “ABC IT
Institute” which is situated in Melbourne.
The assignment includes 2 tasks. The firsts task is to gather information about the requirement
from users, staff. This can be done by using a Questionnaire or asking questions (interview). This
also includes categorization and discussion about all the requirement and also an assessment
plan. Next task is to design a logical and efficient network design along with the performance
metrics. These metrics include (packet loss, uptime, bandwidth, responsiveness, Jitter).

Task 1:
Knowledge of the requirements is very necessary to build and design a network solution. To
gather the information about requirement Questionnaire and asking questions (interviews) can be
helpful. Questionnaire for the company is given below.
Questionnaire:
Number of users
Number of sites
Types of servers and quantity
The speed of internet connection
Is the company using any type of cloud service?
A version of server machines
A version of client machines
Any non-windows machine
What are the applications user are using?
Authentication mechanism?
Encryption of data is available or not?
Security equipment for the network like a firewall?
Any additional requirement:

Analysis of the gathered data:
The above questionnaire is surveyed on many users and the outcome is that the company is using
too many physical resources that are increasing the operational cost of the company. Because
they require more time, cost, resources, and efforts to manage, maintain, update and keep those
resources. The security mechanism is not sufficient as it does not have VLAN and firewall to
protect the system. Company’s systems are working on a lower version of windows. That is not
able to provide sufficient features and security. There are not many numbers of users but the
consumption of resources is very high. The speed of internet connection is very poor as it affects
the performance of the company. There is no access control mechanism available to prevent any
unauthorized access [1].
Effect of humans on the network design:
A number of users and the task performed by users really affect the network design. If a number
of users are high, then it requires high resources and more management. On the basis of the
result, it is clear that the user requires more bandwidth to perform the function in a better
manner. Also, the user needs more security arrangement to protect the system from unwanted
misuse.
Classification of the requirements:
Network requirements: A powerful physical server (web, email, HTTP, DNS), router,
wireless access point, load balancing power, database server, protocols, Ethernet, links,
software
Application requirement: CPU, RAM, Storage, encryption, decryption
User requirement: Availability, flexibility, scalability, security
Device requirement: chipset, memory, ports, RAM, fast connectivity
Security requirements: firewall, IDS, access control list, physical security, encryption
Other requirements: reduce total cost of ownership, monitoring tools, risk management
tools and plans [2].

Discussion about the requirement:
The requirement of the network includes a powerful server that can handle the virtualization as it
will act as multiple servers like a Web server, email server, DNS server, DHCP server. It also
requires a wireless access point to improve the bandwidth and performance. It also helps to
improve the accessibility of the data. It requires an intrusion detection system and firewall to
protect the system from outside threats and risk. Access control list is also required in the system
to prevent unauthorized access to the resources.

The Network assessment plan:
Network assessment plan includes an assessment of network inventory, analysis of network
devices, a review of the architecture of the network, assessment of the security of network and
devices. This assessment plan helps to discover running devices on the network, identify
upgrades, and absolute devices, TCP issues, rectification of weakness, bugs and flaws.
Step 1: preparation
List down the prerequisites such as credentials, permission to access, SNMP to be able to
perform an assessment on the network.
Identify and arrange the tools that will be required for the network assessment.
Step 2: performing
Use a combination of network assessment tools such as analysis, network inventory, and
diagram, performance assessment, assessment of security.
Example of tools is Wireshark, Nessus, Nipper, Solarwinds, neteXPose etc.
Step 3: documentation and report
Documentation and report are helpful to gather all the collected data in one place. This will also
be beneficial for the company to better understand the collected information. This will act as a
reference in future [3].

Task-2 Network design:
Figure 3 network implementation
The above network has been designed by the help of task 1 as in task 1 includes the survey of the
staff and the user and according to the requirement this network is designed which includes all
the services such as DHCP, DNS, EMAIL, and WEB server. And for the security purpose,
implemented the firewall and Access control list is also done on the router and the server for
securing the network.
