Introduction
Business Purpose of the report
The purpose of this reports is to make an efficient assessment of the existing network
facilities of the particular organization and make suitable changes to the existing network
dynamics of the company so that it can be easily incorporated with the business goals of the
company and addressing the organization requirements of the company in addition to it.
Background
The company that is being under consideration in this reports is a private biomedical
development company. The company consists of two three story building software. In addition,
this it is also being mentioned that the current network of the company is old and it is required to
be replaced. Presently the company consists of 250 employees but most them do not require to
use a computer hence the network structure of the company maintains a very basic network
structure that comprises of only two dedicated computer rooms with a set of 10 computers and
printers in each of the rooms. The network is connected by means of hubs and switches to the
components and the peripherals. The network is connected by means of LAN in which the
employees can log in by means of simple authentication techniques.
In the new network requirements for the company they want of provide a machine for all
the programmers within the company would be provided an access point to the new network. In
addition to this, there will be two computer rooms each with 20 computers one for Software
Programmers and the other for Multimedia/Web Designers. There will also be 60 computers in
the admin building. The two buildings for the company would be allocated for the two sets of
employees; one for the technical workers and the other for the business and department. The
network also needs to connect to the WAN at the branch office newly opened by the company.

The company also needs video conferencing facilities within the network. In addition to this
remote access to the network are also to be added within the network for the benefit of the
company.
Scope of the report
The report is used for the description of the network analysis and the implementation of
an upgraded network according to the network specification stated by the company. The network
requirements state by the company has been provided in the report and also main the main
objectives of the network has been provided in this report. The report also provides the network
requirements and the different type of hardware and circuit requirement for the network has also
been provided in this report. The logical physical levels of the network have also been described
efficiently in this report.
Proposed Network Requirements
The requirements for the network has been provided in this part of the report. The
network should be able to address both the technical and the business goals for the organization.
business goals for the organizations are stated below:
• Improved communications, wireless, videoconferencing, etc.
• Spare no expense,
• Protect company information,
• The company of the future will have over 500 employees,
• Be excellent in technology.

NETWORK DESIGN
In addition to this, the technical goals of the company provided for the designing of the
network are:
• The current network, computer rooms are to be upgraded to a modern network (campus design)
to meet developers and employee’s needs,
• Scalability – remember they plan to double in size,
• Availability – Wireless network access is available in all employees as well as some outdoor
areas for software developers and employees,
• Employees have access to company resources from both company and home (different servers),
• Performance – network performance must be high,
• Reliability – no single point of failure,
• Security – protection of company information and other IT assets,
Circuits
The circuit of the network is done in both wiring structures and also in the wireless
structures. The wiring within the network provides the provides the options to create access
points within the network and also the wireless structures provides the remote access facilities to
the network and also the security of the network is maintained separately in the wireless
networks. The use of optical fibers would be very efficient for the network so that the VPN
tunneling can be implemented efficiently in between the different network location and in
between the different buildings of the network. the CAT 6 cables are used for the network that
provide the network speed up to 100 mbps.

Hardware
The layer 2 switches are used in this network as they have a total of 24 ports each. The
layer 3 switches provide 48 ports for connection within the network but this, would result in the
underutilization of the ports as there is not a lot of scope for all the ports in the switches to be
useful. In addition to this, two severs and a number of routers are to be added in the network. one
of these two severs would be a database server and the other would be the main sever that would
have a control over the whole network. The Cisco Catalyst 2800 24 Port Layer 2 switch are used
in the network as they provided very efficient 24 port and 8 port distribution for the network very
efficiently. In addition to this, the Acer Altos R720 Rackmount Servers are used as the main
server and the database server. The Cisco Catalyst 2800 Series Router and the Net gear WG302
Managed Wireless Access Point are also used in the network so the Connection within the
network is properly distributed with the help of these routers. In addition to this, remote
accessibility is also introduced within the network.
Software
The Microsoft Server 2012 is installed in the main server of the network. The database
servers are being configured with the Microsoft SQL Server 2016. The Microsoft Windows
Server Enterprise 2012 is used for configuration within the whole network. The desktops of the
users generally run on the windows operating systems and Microsoft Office 2016 are installed in
the user machines so that official works of the users can be performed efficiently. Symantec End
User Protection system is also installed within the system to protect the network from the
possible threats that takes place within the network.
In addition to this the VM Ware Sphere operating systems are installed within the
network so that the virtual network can be installed within the network. the VM Ware 2013 are

used as these server are very useful and more efficient than the previous version of the virtual
servers.
Proposed Network
The old network of the company is primitive type is implemented with very less
functionalities. The number systems that could be accommodated in the network was also very
limited and hence the requirement of the new network design for the company arises. The old
network was also unable to connect to the WAN services and it was also devoid of any type of
remote access to it. The constructed network for the company consists of different layers. The
physical layer describes the overview of the network. The network is to implemented within two
adjacent buildings and each building consists of three floors each. The employees within the
building should be connected to the network interconnecting the two buildings and they should
be able to communicate within themselves provided sufficient access control system is
implemented within the network so that the data within the network is protected appropriately.
Although the old network is almost neglected the new networks are to be created form
the skeletons of the existing network. The network should also be cost efficient and provide
sufficient security features for the company.
Network Design
The network is divided in to two segments a wireless part and another part connect by
means of the CAT 6 cables. The network also provides two types of accessibility to it. The LAN
connection is limited within the buildings of the network and the network further extends to the
WAN services and is connected remote servers that are connected by means of cloud

technologies. In addition to this the virtual severs and the firewall are also installed in the
network.
Network Justification
The design of the network has been done according to the requirements of the
organization. The network has been provided with both instances of wired circuits and also wire
free circuits. The CAT 6 cables are used in the network as they provide speed 100mbps which is
very useful within the network. the VMWare VSphere is also used in the network so that the
virtual servers can be implemented within the network. the optical fibers are used within the
network so that the VPN tunneling within the network. The Microsoft Windows Server
Enterprise 2012 are very useful implementation within the servers as they provide efficient
access control and authorization within the network. The Netgear WG302 Managed Wireless
Access Point provides efficient remote access to the users of the systems.

Topology used for the network
Logical Topology
The network makes use of a Star topology where the Server is connected to the network
and the client machines can have a direct connection to the servers. Although the access to the
severs are not limited but the authorization is very important for the network.
Physical Topology
In the physical topology view the detailed network design is provided. The switches are
connected to servers in a star topology and systems are connected to the switches in a bus type
series connection. The switches are connected in a ring topology among themselves.

Conclusion
For conclusion it can be said that the network design has be provided according to the
requirement provided by the organization. The report is used for the description of the network
analysis and the implementation of an upgraded network according to the network specification
stated by the company. The logical physical levels of the network have also been described
efficiently in this report. This would be very useful for the reader and main aim of the report is
provide a detailed description of all the important features of the network design.
Recommendations
The following recommendations for the network can be provided:
Replacement of switch: the layer 2 switches can be replaced with the layer 3 switches in future in
case the number of accommodation in the network is increased.
Implementation of cloud architecture: In the Future cloud based solutions can be adopted for the
network so that the better disaster recovery techniques can be implemented within the system.
Improved remote access features: The remote access features within the network can be
improved so that the if the number of users in the network increase the connections within the
network are not hampered.
