MN621: Advanced Network Design - Barranquilla Plaza Hotel Redesign

This report details the redesign of the Barranquilla Plaza Hotel's network, addressing its outdated wireless infrastructure plagued by issues like dead zones and insufficient capacity. The project begins with information gathering through a questionnaire targeting staff, IT management, and hotel members to understand the existing network. A validation and verification plan is outlined to ensure the accuracy of gathered requirements. The core of the project involves a network redesign based on a three-layered architecture: core, distribution, and access layers. Project Description
Main objective of this project is to create a new network design for the Barranquilla
Plaza hotel case study. This hotel is located in the most exclusive area of Barranquilla,Colombia.
But, it has outdated wireless network and a standalone solution for 80 access points which was
plagued with persistent issues like insufficient capacity, dead zones and dropper connections
while being managed by an inconvenient system. These provide unsatisfactory online review
and adversely affects the hotels rating’s. So, the management of the hotel was worried by the
present physical network design of the older access points which was inconsistent with the
hotel interior decor. In this project, we have to address these challenges and improve the
wireless experience of the guests and hotel management and provide them a new solution that
should meet the following requirements,
 Aesthetic Design has to be used to provide a visible network component and it must
blend naturally and effortlessly with the hotel interior decor.
 Reliability which is to create a reliable and stable connections to every device
 Centralized management which is used for providing the present an efficient and
intuitive network management interface which is used for allowing the administrators
to easily manage and monitor the overall wireless network.
 Coverage which is used for transmitting the network signal’s which should be available
across the overall facility with no dead zones.
In this project, we shall redesign the network design for Barranquilla Plaza hotel because
existing network design for the hotel wireless access pointsare having issues we have to provide
them an improved remarkablyoverall experienceto the customers. So, we are redesigning the
network design which is used for providing the effective outcomes for the hotels case study. To
redesign the network for the Hotel case study, we shall start gathering the information about
the existing network, like applications, restriction polices and IP addresses and more. To gather

the information we shall develop questions forthe Staff members, IT management and
members. Finally, we shall redesign the network by using the simulation software. Here, we are
using the netsim to design the network design for this hotel case study. These shall be designed
and discussed in detail.
Part 1 - Information Gathering
In this part, we are gathering the information about the existing network design for hotel
case study by developing the questionnaire which is presented as below [1].
1. Questionnaire
Information gathering about the existing network related questionnaire with its purpose are
listed as below.
1. What you now need to determine is how many floors in that building the network will
cover?
Purpose: This question is used for providing the information about the overall floor
network coverage.
2. Do you need 1 or more wiring closets due to cable length restrictions?
Purpose: This question is used for providing the information about the cable length
restrictions.
3. Growth of the network?
Purpose: This question is used for providingthe information about the existing network
growth.
4. How many servers?
Purpose: This question is used for providingthe information about the existing network
servers.
5. How Quality of service requirements is acquired by this information about the traffic types
for the IT staffs?

Purpose: This question is used for providinginformation about the requirements of the
quality of services required for the existing network and how it acquires this information
about the traffic types for the IT staffs.
6. Mention the existing bandwidth Percentage in Real time traffic?
Purpose: This question is used for providingthe information about the existing real time
traffic bandwidth percentage.
7. Mention the existing bandwidth Percentage in FTP traffic?
Purpose: This question is used for providingthe information about the existing FTP
traffic bandwidth percentage.
8. Mention the existing bandwidth Percentage in SMTP traffic?
Purpose: This question is used for providingthe information about the existing real time
traffic bandwidth percentage.
9. Will wireless roaming be required?
Purpose: This question is used for providing theinformation about the existing wireless
roaming requirements [2]..
10. What authentication for users is needed?
Purpose: This question is used for providing the information about the existing user
authentication.
11. Will open access (hotspots) be provided for the guests?
Purpose: This question is used for providingthe information open access be provided for
the guests.
12. Which network services and applications are available to wireless users?
Purpose: This question is used for providingthe information about the existing network
applications and services which are available to wireless users.
13. Which coverage areas need to be supported?
Purpose: This question is used for providingthe information about the existing network
coverage areas.

2. Validation and verification Plan
In verification and validation plan, it is used for providing the plan to verify the gathered
requirements from various stakeholders. This plan includes the following aspects such as,
 Identify the key stakeholders and assess their interests and influence.
 Establish the appropriate networks.
 Understand the elements ofself-leadership.
 Understand the skills required for developing the effective relationships.
 Develop a stake holder participation strategy.
These are used to define the existing network issues and to access the evidence to support the
user case. It is helpful to control and shape the hotel management networks.
Part 2 - Network Redesign and Demonstration
In this part, we are redesigning the hotel management network because it has an
outdated wireless network and a standalone solution for 80 access points which was plugged
with the persistent issues like insufficient capacity, dead zones and dropper connections while
being managed by an inconvenient system. These provideall the unsatisfactory online
reviewsthat adversely affect the hotels rating. So, we are redesigning the network to provide an
effective and efficient network for Hotel management. Therefore, we have already gathered
the information about the existing network by developing the questionnaire with its purpose
and also provide the plan for verification and validation for existing network for a Hotel
management network. At last, we have redesigned the network based on the existing network
design. The proposed network design is based on three layered network design such as core,
distribution and access layers [3]..
1. Three layered Network Design
The proposed network design for Hotel management is represented as below.

The proposed network design is presented in three layered network design such as core,
distribution and access layer. In core layer, the router is present,in distribution layer, switches
and access points are present, and in the access layer, the PC for each floor is presented. It is
clearly shown in the proposed network design. The proposed network design of the hotel
management case study is used for providing the effective coverage to provide the expected
results which do not have a number of dead zones throughout the hotel. It provides a stable
and reliable network for the guests. It provides a seamless wireless coverage for all the guest
rooms and facilities by using the wireless access points.The proposed or redesigned network
uses the effective switches like 2940 – 24 TT – L which is illustrated as below,

And it also uses the effective routers like 2811 type which is illustrated as below,
Based on the redesigned network for the hotel, it is used for providing a centralized
platform and it also providesan easy to use centralized management platform. It allows staff to
quickly monitor and configure the overall network and make the comprehensive management

as efficient as possible. It is able to establish all the customized settings for the guest wireless
network and it also ensures the bandwidth for all the current guests. It has expressed an
intense satisfaction with their implemented solutions. It provides high performance and a
reliable wireless network. It also provides a cost effective solution. It is used to enable the
flexibility in the network design. It easily facilitates all the trouble shooting and implementation.
The three layered model is responsible for transporting large amounts of data reliably and
quickly. It is used to avoid all the unnecessary delays in the network traffic. Therefore, the
redesigning of the hotel network is used for providing the overall network as effective and
alsoan efficient network. It also provides flexibility and over all availability of the network.
