INTRODUCTION
This assignment is about the Transport Network Design for the IT Company and as a Pre-
sales engineer of the Company, I will suggest the appropriate network design for the IT
Company. The IT Company for which I am designing the network infrastructure is the large
organization which has the 9 computer for the finance departments, 40 computers for the
design departments and 65 computers for the sales departments and has the 4 servers for the
DNS/email/File server. Network Design model which is actually very essential to select the
correct model for network design. Information and the computer networks connect the
people, supports the services and the application and provides the access to the resources for
keeping the business or organization running is due to the network design model in the
organization.
In this assignment, I will first select the network model for the IT Company and will also
explain the features of the scalable networks. After that, I will discuss the LAN redundancy
issues and its solution along with the issues and solution of the load related issues and
bandwidth issues in layer 2 and layer 3. WAN technologies will also explain in this
assignment along with the WAN protocols for the enterprise networks. Deployment network
tool monitoring and also provide some troubleshooting methods for establishing the network
baseline.

LO1: Explore LAN design principles and their application in the network
design process.
P1: Examine the network design models and features of scalable networks based
on a given set of business needs.
Network Design Model
For the success of any business whether small or large information and the computers
networks are very critical. Information and the computer networks connect the people,
supports the services and the application and provides access to the resources for keeping the
business or organization running. The network's model which we are implementing in the IT
Company is the Hierarchical network (Ahuja and R.K., 2017).
Figure 1: Hierarchical Network Model
The Hierarchical network model is the model which is used for connecting the devices into
the multiple networks. This is the model in which it has three types of the layer like the
access layer, the core layer, and the distribution layer.
1. Core layer: the core layer is the layer which works is to connect the devices of the
distribution layer.
2. Access layer: Access layer is responsible for providing the connectivity to the end
devices and for the network's hosts.
3. Distribution Layer: the main work of the distribution layer is to connect the small
local networks.
The hierarchical design has two most common and primary architecture for the network
design are the 2-tier and the 3-tier model.
1. 2-tier Model
Document Page
The two-tier model is the model in which the core layer and the distribution layer are
combined and formed just a single layer. This types of the model are suitable for that
business which are small or the medium in size. This architecture is also termed as the
collapsed core distribution.
Figure 2: 2-tier Model
2. 3-tier Model
The 3- tier model is the model in which the core layer and the distribution layer are
not combined and formed a different layer. This types of the model are suitable for
that business which are large in size (Alhamazani,2015).

departments, 40 computers for the design departments and 65 computers for the sales
departments and have the 4 servers for the DNS/email/File server.
Features of the Scalable Networks
Flowing are the features of the scalable networks for the IT Company:
The main features of using the Scalable networks for the IT Company is that it will
keep the cost of the internet down.
It will scale up the services as the business evolved.
Scalable networks also allow for buying the set amount of the bandwidth.
It provides the QoS (quality of services) to various protocols and application (Alloin,
2018).
Figure 4: Scalable Networks Features
P2: Discuss LAN redundancy, bandwidth, and load related issues and possible
solutions with reference to Layer 2 and Layer 3 of the OSI Model.
OSI Model
The OSI Stands for Open system Interconnection. It is the model used to depicts how actually
the data communication takes place. It has 7 layers like the first layer is the physical layer,
the second layer is the data link layer, the third layer is the network layer, the transport layer
is the fourth layer, the fifth layer is session layer, the sixth one is presentation layer and the
seventh layer is application layer (Baharoon, 2015).

Every layer has some issue with it, following are some of the issues with the layer 3 and layer
2:
LAN Redundancy Issue:
Network redundancy is the key to maintaining the reliability of the network. Multiple
physical links between the devices created so that they provide the redundant path but
sometimes this creates a problem.

ISSUES SOLUTIONS
Nodes aren’t properly connected when
configuring for the local area network
(LAN) redundancy.
For solving this issues it is important to
check whether the SCU configuration is
properly done or not and also to ensure that
both the nodes which are connecting should
contain the same path of the network.
Security doesn’t appear for configuring
appropriately for the Local area network
(LAN) failover security privilege.
This issue can be resolved by application
features like the “Manual Failover” which
will allow initiating the failover by the
active local area network (LAN) to the
standby local area networks (LAN)
manually.
Bandwidth Issue:
Bandwidth Issue is the issue which creates the slow performance of the networks if it
becomes low. If the bandwidth will be low then the performance of the network layer
i.e layer 3 will also be slow.
Document Page
Solution:
Following are the solutions for the issues regarding bandwidth in the OSI model:
For solving the issue of the bandwidth at the network layer it is important to use the
technology of the network monitoring. Some of the common flow-based technologies
which can be used are sFlow technology and NetFlow technology.
There is one very effective and very handy troubleshooting command i.e “Ping”
command given for locating the network issues in the OSI model.
Load Related Issue and solution:
The most common issue at the data link layer (layer 2) is the issue of the MAC
misconfiguration. To resolve the issues with the load balancer it can be done by
verifying the manufacturer that switch can be handled by specific types of the load
balancing for configuring the devices (Beal, 2015).

LO2: Implement a network using LAN design principles based on a predefined set of
requirements
P3: Select LAN devices based on features and requirements, and apply basic
configuration commands for network connectivity.
The LAN devices requirement for the IT Company are:
1. Routers
The IT Company have to use at least one router in each and every branch for connecting
with the internet services.
2. Switches
On the distribution layer the IT Company has to use the multiple layer switches.
P4: Implement a LAN design with Layer 2 and Layer 3 redundancy using switch and
router redundancy protocols.
