Introduction
When one is in need of purchasing the network items one has to consider the network
design model in all aspects. In knowing the best communication network design the
designer must ensure that the proposed network can be easily adjusted and it is scalable
to the demands of the new services. In supporting the network that is on a based economy
it is the mandate of the network designer in creating a network that is almost 100% all the
time. A network security should be planned and designed so that it will automatically
fend-off all incidents of security that might be unexpected. In understanding all the
network design basics its good we go through some of the aspects and know what they
portray to the network world (Cisco, 2012). In determining the network design we have
to understand the overview of the network design and the three-layer hierarchical pros
and cos.
Overview of the Network Design
In networking there are two critical aspects for any successful business may it be in a
small or a large firm and that is the computers and the network information. The two are
used in connecting people, supporting applications and services and providing the access
to resources that will help in keeping the business running. In meeting the daily
requirements of a given business network concern have become so complex in dealing
with and that is why for a good network design to be built we will need to consider the
following network requirements and objectives (Dib, 2016). The requirements of the
network and the goals of the company must correspond by matching so that we know
what to design.
Scalability
The understanding on scalability on networking is on the basis of allowing future
expansions of the network in terms of additional of devices and application on the
network. The reason to as why the network designer will have to reconsider the scalabilty
as a design goal is avoiding to go back on the draw board when need of extending the
network arise in the future.

Availability
The goal of availability is very major in the manner that the design will need to
consistently deliver and by being reliable at all times no matter what. The other idea is
that in case one part fail then it does not to affect the entire network and hence network
breakdown.
Security
The most fundamental feature in designing of a network. This must be established at
early stage so that we can be able to safeguard the network and this is implemented
through the establishment of the security devices such as the firewalls, filters and many
others
Manageability
It does not matter how many staff are the company but the idea behind everything is that
it should be manageable in all manners. It is good to know if a network is too complex
then it might be difficult in maintaining and much more handling.
Hierarchical Design
The case on assignment four can only be done using the hierarchical architecture which is
much influenced on how the system can be flexible and scalable and hence meeting our
requirements and needs. This type of network design is applied where we have multiple
networks and the approach is network arranged in layers. The three layers are core,
distribution and the access layers respectively (edrawsoft, 2014). The diagram below
explains them below in details.

Figure 1 Hierarchical architecture
Layer 1 is the access layer which provides the network access.
Layer 2 is the distribution layer which provides all the connectivity-based policy and
control all boundaries that are between access and core layer.
Layer 3 is the core later that provides the transmission making it to be fast between the
services that are distributed over and across the network.
Pros and Cos of the Network Design
The reason to as why we have not picked Flat switched network is because in flat
network design there is very slight opportunity in controlling the broadcasts or to even
filtering all the traffic that is undesirable (Wepman, 2016). Unlike in hierarchical when
we add more applications and devices in a flat switched network there is degradation of
the response time that makes the network to become unusable (Ayyu, 2015).
Conclusion
The chosen network design in this concept is the hierarchical architecture where we will
have different layers which will give us a more sustainable and satisfying design
depending on our requirements. As discussed it will be easy to comply with the

complexity of the design as it easy to manage as it can hold multiple networks and hence
troubleshooting and scaling will be very easy
