It evaluates the leadership approaches of Bob and Jim, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses in the context of a construction project. The report examines project execution challenges, particularly the lack of planning for seasonal weather conditions, and proposes alternative solutions such as negotiating payment rates or assigning carpenters to alternative tasks. A key aspect is the ethical assessment, addressing the implications of using company resources for personal gain and how it violates the PMI code of ethics. The report offers ethical alternatives, analyzes the ethical implications of different choices, and concludes with recommendations for ethical action, such as engaging carpenters in other project-related tasks to prevent the misuse of company funds and maintain their motivation.

NETWORK PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1. PM Leadership
A proper leadership is essential in order to lead the time in a proper way so that a
particular task can be completed within a scheduled time. Analysing the current scenarios, the
leadership styles portrayed by Jim and Bob is needed to be evaluated [1]. The leadership styles
shown by Jim and Bob is evaluated in the following section
1.1. Project Management Leadership by Bob
Bob is an experienced worker of the firm and has been engaged with the firm for 25
years. Bob is quite experienced and have shown an efficient leadership style in past. This is the
reason why the workers of the firm have an increasing trust on the decision and the leadership
style of Bob.
A problem has been observed in the project execution process of the fir. With an aim to
keep the carpenters motivated, (who are practically jobless during the rainy days), Bob made a
decision to send the carpenter in his home for some personal work [5]. He implemented his
decision as well without consulting Jim. The main idea behind sending the carpenters for his
personal work was mainly to motivate them and keep them engaged [3]. Therefore Bob had
shown a transformational leadership style in managing the current situation. However, Bob
should have consulted Jim before taking this decision, and furthermore, the idea of paying the
carpenters from the construction cost was not an ethical idea.
1.2. Project Management Leadership by Jim
Jim is very new to the firm and has very little knowledge and experience about the
different project management works. Although Jim found the situation of sending the workers

home for work unethical, he could not take a proper decision in order to stop it. Therefore it can
be said that the Jim has shown a situational leadership style as he had thought of talking with
Bob regarding the matter [6]. However, it was necessary for him to ensure that the constructional
cost is not wasted on the personal work of Bob.
2. PM Execution
A close observation and analysis of the current project scenario and project progress
prove that the project progress was not smooth. The project plan has certain faults that resulted in
this current problem. The project team was well aware of the winter and spring rains and yet did
not plan the project accordingly. This was a major fault in the management’s part as rains in
winter and spring is obvious in that area. Use of proper knowledge and project management
skills were required in this case in order to ensure a smooth progress in the project.
Since the error in the project plan cannot be rectified, as an alternative option, both Jim
and Bob could have negotiated the rate of payment of the carpenters in the rainy days. They
could have paid in a reduced rate or on basis of the work they are doing in such days.
3. PM Risk Analysis
The project plan was faulty and it was quite clear. There are certain risks that the project
plan should have identified including the risk of winter rains. There were certain problems
associated with the project scheduling since the furnishing work should have been avoided in the
rainy days. Due to the rains the carpenters are becoming jobless in the rainy season as well.
Therefore it as necessary to address the different risks associated with the project.

NETWORK PROJECT MANAGEMENT
As the risk mitigation approach this risk could have been transferred to a contractor who
could have been appointed for providing all the furnishing works associated with the project and
could have been paid on an instalment basis [2]. The project manager could have further
negotiated with the carpenters for a payment in a subsidised rate during the rains. This could
have saved a considerable amount of the construction cost and Bob would not had to engage the
carpenters for his personal works.
4. Ethics Assessment
The ethical implication associated with the situation is that whether it is justified to use
the carpenters for personal work and paying them from the construction cost.
This situation definitely does not abide by the law since it is not legal to use the resources
of the organization for personal work. It would not be a legal issue if Bob would have not paid
the carpenters from the construction cost.
According to the code of ethics and professional conduct a project team member needs to
be fair and honest in their action. Bob did not consult his team members before taking this action
and therefore it is not ethical. Therefore the current situation does not follow the PMI code of
ethics as the use of the resources of a company certainly does not align with the code of ethics or
the professional code of conduct.
5. Ethics Alternatives
The alternative that Jim had was to take the matter in his hands and report the situation to
the higher officials. The advantage is that Jim could have prevented the unethical use of the
company’s resources. The disadvantage is that, it might result in loss of the workers.

NETWORK PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The alternative option that Bob had, was to engage the carpenters in some other internal
works of the firm be it on another branch [8]. The advantage is that the carpenters would have
remained motivated. The disadvantage is that that the construction cost would have been wasted
in some other works.
6. Ethics Analysis
The candidate decision could have been negotiating with carpenters for a subsidised rate
or engagement of the carpenters in some internal work of the firm. The PMI ethical decision
making framework would not have permitted the use of company’s recourses to be used for
someone’s personal work.
7. Ethics Application
The choice of engaging the carpenters would definitely be of greatest good since it will
keep the carpenters remain engaged and the resources of the company will not be used for any
unethical purpose.
8. Ethics Action
Therefore the decision is to engage the carpenters for the different project works
associated with the firm as it will prevent the wastage of construction costs.
