Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment solution provides an overview of the student's skills and experience in network security. It begins with a self-assessment of strengths in networking and network security, followed by a discussion of various network security tools, including Wireshark, Nmap, Nagios, and Cisco Packet Tracer, highlighting their uses and functionalities. The assignment further details three IT projects undertaken by the student: an intelligent traffic signal system for vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANET), a project on ethical hacking and identifying vulnerabilities, and a project on migrating from IPv4 to IPv6. Each project description includes the project title, scope, type, major features, nature of participation, and tools used. The document concludes with a bibliography, citing relevant research papers.

NETWORK SECURITY
Answer to Question 1:
The areas where I have the main areas of strength is in the filed of networking and
networking security. I have done different networking projects and have knowledge of using
different network management and analysis tool that is required for monitoring the flow of
data packets in a network.
Answer to Question 2:
There are different types of network security tools that can be used for the
management of wired or wireless network. I have knowledge about different networking
tools such as:
Wireshark – used for capturing data packets in the network and analysis of the flow
of the data packets in the network and troubleshooting the errors in the network.
Nmap – It is a security scanner used for discovering the services and host of a local
area network. It can be used for scanning the service and the vulnerability of a network.
Nagios – It is used for monitoring the availability of the network after analysis of the
flow of data and security of the network. It can be used for collecting logs and auditing the
current network of the organization.
Cisco packet tracer – It is used for creating a prototype of the network and
configuring different types of cisco devices that are used for development of a network
framework.
Answer to Question 3:
The following are the three IT projects that I did:
Project 1:

NETWORK SECURITY
Project Title – Intelligent traffic signal system for the ad-hoc networks of vehicles based on
GPS
Scope – The scope of the project is to reduce the traffic jam and accident using wireless
communication technology.
Type of project – VANET based traffic signal controller
Major Features-
Reduces traffic jams and by tracking the current position and speed of the vehicle
Nature of participation –
Active participation as a leader of 3 members in a group.
Tool used – Java SE6 Update 10, GPS tool, Ad Hoc
Project 2:
Project Title: Network Security: An Examination of Current Methods of Attack
Scope – The scope of identify the open ports and the vulnerability of the targeted system and
identify the attacks that can be performed using the vulnerability.
Type of project – Ethical hacking project
Major features – To perform different types of attack using kali Linux and identification of
the prevention techniques. The attacks performed were SQL injection attack, denial of service
attack, brute force and phishing attack. The main focus of the project was to identify the
methods that can be used for the prevention of this types of attacks. The use of encryption
and installation of antivirus software in the targeted machine would help in preventing this
types of attacks. This type of attacks can also be prevented with the implementation of
intrusion detection system.

Project 3:
Project Title: Migration from Ipv4 to Ipv6 network
Scope – Migration from Ipv4 to Ipv6 network enables the network to communicate with the
network configured with IPv6 network address.
Type of Project – Networking
Major Features – The current IPv4 network was configured with IPv6 address for enabling
its communication with a network configured with IPv6 address.
