ACTIVITY 4: NEW FORMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SELF-REFLECTION
To be completed after Workshop 9 – due in the week your group are presenting
their poster.
Based on the content of last week’s lecture and this week’s workshop, you must:
a) Critically evaluate one form of new employment and its impact on workers. You must use
academic sources; include in-text citations and a Reference List.
b) Based on feedback of your portfolio activities received from your tutor, identify 3 areas where
you have improved. Be specific and include the steps you took to ensure your improvement.
a) A new form of employment in the recent time is the contractual or temporary employment
(Vives, González and Benach 2016). The impact of the speedy development of employee
leasing resulted in huge demand for temporary workers. The impact of this temporary
employment makes a negative impact on the nature of the workers since the workers does not
feel fully committed to the place they work (Giuliano et al. 2017). Besides the tension of
losing the temporary employment effects the productivity of the workers and they often tend
to search for other better opportunities. They do not generally concentrate on their work.
Besides, temporary workers receive a very negligible amount of salary resulting in lack of
commitment towards the organization they are working in. The poor salary structure is not at
all sufficient for them to meet their needs and this affects them mental and psychological
factors (Dawson, Veliziotis and Hopkins 2017). Often the temporary employers are being
illtreated by the higher authorities of the organization and they often face issues receiving
salaries on time. Furthermore, they are devoid of any specific holiday plans and medical
benefits from the company.
b) Based on the previous feedbacks received from the tutor, the three major areas were
improvement has been done are:
1)Understanding the question: Repeated readings of the requirements asked for
ensures clear understanding of the questions of the tasks.
2)To the point answers: Addressing each and every point within the given word limit,
in the form of bullets if required to deliver a piece of high quality answers.
3)Include intext citations in the work pieces: Using references and citing the quotes
and theories used while constructing the answers makes the answers strong, valid and not
vague.
