Article “New graduate nurses' experiences in their first year of practice” is the work by
four authors namely Vicki Parker, Michelle Giles, Gena Lantry and Margaret McMillan and
published on 6th July 2012 (Parker & et. al., 2014). Main purpose of this article is to find out
experience of new graduates who joined nursing workforce in NSW and different factors which
are affecting their performance while working. Moreover, various methods could be formed after
finding the factors which are deteriorating the working performance like workforce behaviour,
satisfaction towards work and retention rate. Argument on which whole article is based on the
first year of employment of new graduates and how it shapes the professionals career in future. It
can be said that motivation plays an important role in the working performance of nurses as if
they are highly motivated then their clinical practices would also improved to a certain level. For
instance, new graduates requires support and feedback from their seniors and colleagues as it
directly makes a positive impact on working performance. Besides this, it should be clear in the
mind of nurses that what their seniors and company expected from them as then only they would
be able to modify their activities according. At last, satisfaction at the workplace will only
achieved if there is clarity in job role, proper equipments for conducting their job,
encouragement from others etc. Authors have used cross sectional study while collecting the data
and it would be inexpensive in nature and it is easier to collect large number of data which turns
research into credible and authentic resources But on the other hand, there are different types of
variables like age, behaviour, culture, society etc which is avoided at the time of collecting data
thus fluctuating overall response in a negative way. Many of the survey was collected through
email and postcard so there are high chances of fake responses as nurses might fill any of the
questions just to get rid of it. Apart from this, it would be hard for every nurses or individual to
understand the questioner as there are few people who does not properly understand English as
their main language is Chinese. So this will leads to decrease in the credibility of the responses.
Likert scale have been used by authors to collect the survey which is ideal in nature as it would
be easier for respondents to react the question by marking them from 1 to 5 on likert scale. But it
is uni dimensional in nature as it provides few responses to the authors and to differentiate from
it would be harder for them. Sometimes respondents avoid using the extreme scale as it reflects
negative behaviour thus affecting the credibility of answers collected. Above mentioned article is
helpful for readers to understand the problem faced by the nurses while working as it shows

various aspects due to which they are motivated or demotivated. Moreover, it could be use in
different field also as human behaviour is same in every industry individual is working.
