Reading chapter 3, “Birth of The Newborn Child” has equipped with the knowledge
about my parents’ and grandparents’ experience with pregnancy, childbirth, and the first year of
their child (children’s) life. In regards to what I know about your parents' experience with
pregnancy, childbirth and the first year of their child (children’s) life, this chapter 3 has made me
know that my parents have experience difficulties with birth and its cultural context. This has
been experienced through the process of birth which entails stages of birth and birth
complications and the Cesarean delivery. I have known that my parents have experienced
different kinds of danger and pain during pregnancy and child birth. The parents have also
experienced challenges during the first year of life of the children including social and emotional
aspects of neonatal care which entail crying and soothing, bonding as well as postpartum
depression.
In regards to what I know about your grandparents' experience with pregnancy, childbirth
and the first year of their child (children’s) life, I have also acknowledged that the experience has
been more or less the similar. However, I have realized that the challenges and difficulties
experienced by my grandparents’ were more pronounced than those experienced by my parents.
For instance, I have realized that my grandparents had experienced much more severe social and
emotional aspects of neonatal care manifested through soothing and crying and postpartum
depression. My grandparents also experienced birth complications more severely as opposed to
my parents.
