(1) INTRODUCTION
In today era many new approaches and technologies are developed that can be used to identify and solve the business problem. In
the present research study problem statement is prepared for the football club Newcastle. Mentioned football club from past couple of
years is giving poor performance and reason behind same is identified in the report. at end of the report recommendation section is
prepared.
(2) Problem/ opportunity statement
Newcastle is one of the well-known football club that played in the premier league. From past couple of years football club is
not performing well and even is not in top 10. Top 5 in the premier league were Liverpool, Leicester city, Man city, Chelsea and Man
United. Newcastle football club was on 13th position in the league. There are number of reasons due to which Newcastle football club
failed to perform better in the league. One of the main reason is that it takes players on loan from the other leagues (Leach and
Szymanski, 2015). Loan is the arrangement under which player of any football club can play for other football club for the specific
time period. Player may play for other football club either for specific matches of season or entire season, depend on the terms and
conditions of the contract. Usually, football clubs give its player to any other football club when then want to test their player
performance or same is not performing up to the expected level. There are number of players in the football club who are taken on
loan basis. This reflect that football club does not have skilled footballers and financial condition is also not good due to which it is
compelled to take players on loan from other clubs. Such kind of strategy proved dangerous for the club as it is receiving most of
players on loan basis that failed to perform for the Newcastle football club (Xu, 2015). On analysis of data it is identified that there are
number of players to whom payment is made above the market value and they failed to perform for the Newcastle football club. So
basic problem is that players are not performing well and Newcastle football club is paying more to the players which lead to
inefficient use of financial resources in the business. By making effective use of the cash in the business Newcastle football club can

buy more players on contract basis then on loan basis from other club (Newcastle United., 2019). Thus, it can be said that Newcastle is
one of the club in the league that need to made lots of improvements in the business operations so that performance can be improved
to maximum possible extent.
(3) Evidence of knowledge of key business intelligence and analytics systems
Business intelligence refers to the system where business firm make use of technology to obtain information about each and every
business operation. In the business intelligence domain there are number of software’s like Tableau, Microsoft power BI and Excel
etc. Wide range of software’s are available from small price range to large price range with attractive features. For example, if any
company have small amount of budget then it can pick Knowi as business intelligence system. On other hand, if any company have
large amount of budget then in that case it picks Tableau as business intelligence software. However, there is difference in price range
and due to this reason, there is also difference between these software’s in terms of features. For example, graphical representation of
data in Tableau looks to be much better then in Knowi. So, overall it can be said that according to requirements firms can choose any
of available options (Sellitto and Hawking, 2015). As part of analytics system business firm can make use of R and SAS. Both are
commonly used software’s. R is the open source software and any one either it is company or student can make use of this software
for data analysis purpose. On other hand, there is another software namely SAS which is paid version and if any firm pick its
professional version then it has to make payment to the relevant company. Tableau or Microsoft power BI are always connected to the
database that may be PostgreSQL or any other database management software. Such kind of software’s are connected to the Amazon
cloud where entire data is available whether it is processed or raw data (Jiang and et.al., 2015). SQL software remain connected to the
Amazon cloud or any cloud-based service and tables that are in these software’s keeps on updating consistently. In the SQL software’s
materialized views are prepared in which subset of data is available from the entire table. Finally, Tableau like software’s are
connected to these materialized views and receive recently updated data. In this way entire data comes in the Tableau and other sort of
software’s. At last, on basis of subset entire charts and dashboards are prepared in Tableau and Microsoft BI. Thus, it can be said that
in the business intelligence system multiple software’s are used and are connected to each other in data processing and transfer. In this

on real time basis analysts receive entire business information which they use to make business decisions. It can be said that there is
huge significance of the business intelligence system for the business firms.

In the dataset facts related to Newcastle football players is taken into account. There are number of variables in the data set
namely player name, rank in Newcastle football club, market value of the player, fee paid to the player, number of times yellow card
given to the player, position of the player in the matches on the field, premier league goals scored by the player on the ground, number

of premier league match that are played by the player. In the data specific calculated field is given which is labelled as MV – FE. MV
here stands for the market value of the player and FE stand for the fee that is charged by each player.
In the dashboard in the specific sequence all charts and tables are arranged. First of all, chart is placed which indicate number
of matches each player played on the ground and then chart is prepared and placed which reflect the players goal performance.
Thereafter, focus is on rank that each player has on Newcastle football club. Up to this part attention is paid on player performance
and number of matches he played. By viewing above mentioned charts, one can get an overview of the players performance. Then
focus is one number of times yellow card show to the player in the market and gap that exist between market value and actual fee
charged by the player for playing matches on the name of Newcastle football club. Goal and payment analysis is done at end of the
dashboard. In the chart attempt is made to demonstrate whether if fee paid is greater then market value player performs good or worst.
In the table it can be seen that in case of most of players 10 out of 11 losses is observed by the Newcastle football club. To all
these 10 players out of 11 higher amounts of fee is paid relative to market value. There are 4 players out of 10 who does not score
even single goal. Thus, it can be said that these players failed to perform good for the club. In case of player Joelinton heavy loss is
observed as it can be seen from the table given above that there is gap of 9 million between market value and fee paid. Market value of
player is only 35 million but fee paid to the player is 44 million. Thus, it is clear that Newcastle football club pay more then market
value. In return player score only 1 goal on playing 21 matches. Apart from this, 4 times yellow card are shown to the player. Top
scorers for Newcastle football club are Fabian, Federico and Ciaran who score total 6 goals, 2 goals each. In case of Fabian and Ciaran
also more is paid then market value but gap is one million which is up to expected level. However, these players observed number of
yellow cards. In case of Fabian there are 4 yellow cards in 15 matches. Federico seen 4 yellow cards in 15 matches. Thus, it can be
said that these players perform good but are in disciplined in nature. Overall, it can be said that amount paid is higher than market
value and players failed to perform well and also show lack of discipline in their behaviour. Thus, poor performance and overpayment
is one of the major problem of Newcastle football club.

(5) Recommendation on successful implementation and use of business intelligence and data analytics
systems and conclusion
It is recommended to the Newcastle that it must prepare new dashboards on Microsoft Excel or Tableau under which before
selecting any player for the club deep analysis of its performance must be done. Like number of goals made, defence and passes etc.
Data of at least three years must be taken in to account so that up and down in the performance can be identified and accordingly
decisions can be made. By following this approach in the business intelligence system Newcastle can identify one of the best players
and then can include them in the club. Probability of improvement in performance will enhanced. To such kind of players even if
higher amount is paid it does not matter for the Newcastle what really matters is clubs and players overall performance. Apart from
this, Newcastle must avoid to take players on the loan-based arrangement. This is because other clubs given player to Newcastle to
test perfo0rmance of their player which is not on ground from few days or struggle to perform better. Under this arrangement,
Newcastle football club make payment to other club and do not get performance even nearby to the expected level. Thus, Newcastle
must follow a specific strategy and under these best players must be picked even Newcastle need to pay large amount. This is because
probability of good performance from players side is very high under this strategy.
On the basis of above discussion, it is concluded that there is significant importance of the business intelligence system for the
business firms because by using it on real time basis detail information can be obtained about the performance of the team and in
better way decisions can be made to prepare new team for the next match. It is also concluded that by using business intelligence
system good players can be identified out of available options and best one can be picked for the team. By doing so best team can be
developed and performance can be improved to maximum possible extent.
