In recent times, the Canadian experience for immigrants have been negative because
of various issues concerning the job market and the Canadian society as a whole. The
Canadian job market is highly internalized by the authoritative figures in various organization
which is making it difficult for the immigrants to find a reliable stepping stone in the
Canadian market. The immigrants are also suffering due to the various perils existent within
the society.
The basis of this problems lie both within and in the external environments of the
immigrants. The society in Canada tends to be highly resistant to multiculturalism. Although
there are strict laws about racism and problems related to the same, the society is skeptical
about the influx of immigrants. One might call this mechanism rather defensive than
offensive.
The job situation is similar. The companies in Canada do not reveal the positions open
to the world, the employers like to retain the very Canadian workforce they already have and
thus the job market is very easy for the residents of the country. But this makes it difficult for
the immigrants. There is a large influx of immigrants who struggle to get a job of their choice

By New Immigrants"). Canadian employers do not want immigrants. Immigrants are required
to be at par with Canadian soft skills which might be difficult to achieve, so they tend to start
from zero at work.
Most people end up with jobs that are not according to their level. Administrative
minds end up in physically taxing jobs and question if the immigration was of any use.
Taking in immigrants also demand a change in policies of the company which has to focus on
achieving the atmosphere suitable for multicultural employees to exist in. This will inevitably

incur enormous charges to make the existing people trained and open to communication with
immigrants.
Immigrants naturally, because of their cultural background are used to a certain kind
of outlook in life. They are molded according to the traditions of their home countries and the
culture of the same. They are honed in a way that enables them to tackle the jobs they had in
their home countries. They lack a clear view of the outlook other people have in the same
company, like for marketing professionals it is important for them to be aware of consumer
tastes and preferences. This inevitably ends up becoming problematic to the newcomers of
the society because they are not Canadian. They have to learn from scratch. Canada
appreciates the skills one might have acquired over his life but tends to be highly concerned
about how legitimate it will be in their society.
With immigrants stuck in survival jobs within Canada, it is imperative that they see a
clear reduction in their lifestyle by force and not by choice. Humanity strives for growth and
in this case, immigration ends up becoming a burden because there is no growth, instead
there is a drop. They have to make ends meet through jobs they do not like and the jobs they
did not want, in a way that they did not desire. They go from comfort to struggle really soon.
There are methods specialized to help immigrants overcome the problems they face.
Free employment assistance is offered by many local agencies to help people with advanced
courses that will allow them to prepare themselves for interviews and arm themselves with
materials mandatory to crack the difficult interviews at the companies (Swartz). Excelling in
English is really necessary to get a job in Canada because if there is one barrier that will
reduce any chance of getting a job in Canada, it is the barrier of language. They can intern or
volunteer at organizations related to their specialization to gather the Canadian experience or

willing take up lower level jobs to rise up the ranks all the while gathering the Canadian
experience.
Immigrants are bound to face problems caused by the various prejudices existing the
society. Multiculturalism is not present everywhere and they might find themselves being
stereotyped by the people surrounding them. A communication gap will exist in between the
people and the immigrant because of their race or generation. The feelings of isolation or the
apparent loneliness, might trouble the immigrants because it is only natural that they take
time to settle down within the society (Cultural Issues with Immigrants!). They will lack a
support system for a long time if they are slow to adapt and overcome the problems and gaps.
In conclusion, it is evident that Immigration is a challenging process in Canada
because of the standards set and maintained by the society and administration. They are
mostly inflexible in nature which immediately causes the immigrant to be at a loss. The
process for settling is slow and gradual, as it takes years to find a footing and resume a
normal life according to the expectations the immigrant normally had.
