Introduction
Interactive systems are computerized system that commences interactions with the users to
provide certain solution to their required tasks. The usability of the interactive system defines the
design and aesthetic aspects of the system by which it is determined as usable. The evaluation
method of the interactive systems includes reviewing the overall system according to certain set
guidelines and principles which describes the operational aspects of the interactive system.
This report suggests the process of evaluation of the chosen interactive system which in this case
is the interactive systems of the online retailer Newegg. In this report, the various functionalities
of the Newegg’s interactive systems are tested and evaluated using Nielsen’s guidelines and
principles which state the proper development of an interactive system. In this report, also
mentioned is the process and methodologies used in the process of evaluation of the Newegg’s
online website solution and the mobile application.

Interactive system and its users
Newegg is an online global software and computer retailer based in North America, which
provides services to more than 50 countries across Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, and in
the Middle East. The interactive system provided by Newegg includes both the online website
and the mobile application. The organization, with the help of the interactive systems,
commences business online and across the world. The process of development of interactive
system requires various guidelines and principles to be followed so that the system is free from
errors and process their designated tasks with ease. The design of the interactive system of
Newegg is purposed to be simple and elegant, containing all the functions which are important in
an interactive system so as to process the requirements of the users quickly with no errors Issa
and Isaias, 2015).
The users of the Newegg interactive system include various official and non-official personnel’s
who interacts with the system to provide benefits to the customers as well as the organization.
The users of the interactive system of Newegg basically include the consumers, managers,
employees, official partners, and engineers. These users process the operations and tasks present
in the system to process their needs and requirements. The official users determine the successful
working of the interactive systems whereas non-official users use the system so as to process
their desired tasks. These users define the proper working of the system and provide feedback
regarding any drawback of the system.

This use case diagram represents the post-development processing and operations of the Newegg
online services. This use case diagram of Newegg e-retailer services includes the overall entities
that interact with the application system to participate in various cases. It includes the, Manager

such as Organisation Manager (manages the day-to-day tasks, deals, etc. to ensure proper
operation of the business), Channel Manager (manages the inventory and its flow, and ensures
that consumers get all the required products and services), and the other managers that operate
within the Newegg system to smoothly process the process of business conduction. The Use case
diagram is also presented with the Employees among which include the team which processes all
the operation that requires processing in the interactive system of Newegg. The Use case
diagram is presented with the Customer service team of Newegg who are responsible for
handling all the customer related issues. They are responsible to gather information about the
customers and their choices. Customer support team’s main objective in the interactive system is
to provide solutions to the customers and also to reply to the customers on their feedbacks and
comments, to provide enhanced business services to the consumers. The Use case diagram is
presented with the Chief Engineer, who is responsible for the management and maintenance of
the online business platform. CE along with their team is responsible for ensuring the proper
running of the system. They also ensure that the consumers do not face any issues during
browsing and purchasing of any products and services from the Newegg system. The Use case is
presented with the users who are responsible for the successful running of the business. Users not
only purchase products and services but also provide appropriate feedbacks for the requirements
that are required in the system for enhanced usability (Paterno, 2001).

Usability requirements
Usability requirements of the Newegg e-retailer solution are performed to determine the usability
factors of the application system. This process determines the working ease of the system by
which the functionality of the Newegg system can be evaluated and ensured its safe and easy
operation. The main prospect of this study is to determine the usability attributes of the Newegg
application system. Usability attributes state that the built system must be-
 Easily learnable- The processes and functions provided in the interface system of Newegg
must be easy to understand and easily processes able by the new as well as existing users.
 Process efficiency- The working process of the application system of Newegg must be
simple and efficient for the consumers of their business platform.
 Easy understandable- The functions present in the design of the application must be easily
understandable and the user must recognize what specific function does in the application.
 Remembering ability- The design of the system should be easy to remember with their
process and functions.
 Enriched satisfaction- The users interacting with the application must output satisfactory
results by providing the requirements easily (Quiñones, Rusu and Rusu, 2018).
The usability requirements of the system are based on all the attributes which will lay the
foundation of the Newegg system. Usability requirement of an application is generally measured
using the following aspects by which the application system and the user’s interaction take place.
These requirements are processed using various testing processes such as-
 Performance determination with respect to usability requirements- In this process, the
performance of the application, its functions, tasks, intractability, and more that develops a
satisfactory result of the users in operating the Newegg application is analyzed. In this
process, the application of Newegg in managing its users and helping out their requests or
products quickly is determined. The application is also determined to process in speed and
resolve queries without making the users wait due to loading or search processing.
 Processing determination with respect to usability requirement- In this method, the
processing ability of the application is determined in comparison of requirement and the
ability of the application system. This testing method checks that the application processes

according to the requirement of users and operators to provide a smooth working experience
with adequate processing of the tasks when required for.
 Defect determination with respect to the usability requirements- In this method, the
presence of defects and their management system in the application is measured and checked.
This process of defect detection in the application suggests the problems that appear due to
lack of testing in the early stages of the application development which later if not tested,
demotes to quality of the application and also induces loss in consumers in their organization.
 Determination of design with respect to usability requirements- In this process of
requirement analysis, the design of the application is evaluated to ensure that it provides all
the required functions and the usability aspects as desired by the owner and the users by
which the application can enhance business growth and be a user-friendly application.
 Subjective determination with respect to usability requirements- In this process, the
subjective of the application is determined according to a set data for satisfaction parameters.
These parameters define the requirements of subjective approaches of the application, which
in this case is the user experience in using the application. This process of requirement
analysis will determine the working structure of the application by which the users can be
benefitted (Bevan et. al, 2016).

Evaluation methodology
In this report, the Newegg online platform including both the website and the mobile application
are evaluated using Nielsen’s stated principles and guidelines. The evaluation methodology is
stated as follows-
Newegg website evaluation
The website of Newegg is evaluated using the “113 design guidelines for homepage usability”
stated by Jakob Nielsen. This set of guidelines includes various measures which define the state
of the website according to its built quality. The guidelines include-
 Communicating the Site's Purpose- This guideline states that the Homepage of the site
must provide the exact purpose of the website. The homepage since is the first page of a
website must contain all the important details of the organization which in this case is the
Newegg online retailer solution. This guideline states that the website must properly describe
the name and logo to depict the required details in their website solution.
 Content writing- This guideline represents the contents of products and services of the
organization. The webpage must contain appropriate contents so that it defines the purpose in
very fewer words. It also states the use of simple and consumer-focused language instead of
complex fancy phrases.
 Communicating the information about your company- This guideline states that the
website must provide with proper information of the company from its history, operating
periods, processes, and also appropriate use of pages that will describe all about the
organization.
 Navigation. This guideline states that the navigation of the website must be proper and the
areas of navigation must be properly defined to avoid unwanted visiting to multiple
webpages for certain task.
 Animation and Graphics. This guideline state that the visual contents and the animations
and transition effects provided in a webpage must not be too heavy to clutter the page and
hide the information present on the page.

 Advertising. This states that the website must not contain any type of third-party ads in the
core pages of the website. This also states the use of a smaller and discrete form of third-
party ads, if present on the website (Nielsen, 2001).
Other than the above stated, there are various guidelines to be considered to enhance the usability
of the website solution.
Newegg mobile application evaluation
The application of Newegg is evaluated using the 10 heuristic principles of Jakob Nielsen
according to which the overall condition of the application will be determined. The principles
stated by Nielsen includes-
 Visibility of system status. It states the use of appropriate feedback to enhance online quick
processing.
 User control and freedom. It states that the user of the application must have full control in
managing their profiles and be able to go out of the application within required conditions.
 Recognition rather than recall. It states that the application must include functions which
can make the user direct them within the application and also retrieve the information from
any location when desired for.
 Consistency and standards. It states the design of the applications functions and other
intractable components must be properly managed and aligned. The pages of the application
must have a similar base ground.
 Match between system and the real world. It states that language or the selection of
languages in the application should be according to the language used by the respective areas
of services.
 Aesthetic and minimalist design. It states that the application interface must only contain
any unwanted contents such as texts, dialogues, and more. This will enhance positive
attributes towards the application page and clearly demonstrate the relative visibility.
 Error prevention. It states that the mobile application must contain error messages and alert
pop-ups to notify users with proper information about the issues and their best possible
resolution.

 Flexibility and efficiency of use. It states the requirements of accelerators in the mobile
application which will enhance the processing ability of the application. This will also
enhance the application system so as to provide appropriate contents to the consumers.
 Help and documentation. It states the requirements of the help and documentation page in
the mobile application so that the issues that users face can be easily eliminated and resolved.
 Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors. It states the use of readable
languages in coding alert messages, using which the users can easily interact with the
application's interface (Nielsen, 1995).

Evaluation
The evaluation of the Newegg online retailer service provider is performed by using the Jakob
Nielsen’s guidelines and heuristic principles. In the process of the evaluation, the pages of the
website and the application were checked for issues, faults, and drawbacks. The working and
design of the pages of the online business system are evaluated to determine its working
condition following various guidelines. The application of Newegg business solution is evaluated
using the heuristic principles to determine if the application lacks any of the principles or if it
follows any specific principles in the page design (Baymard, n.d.).
