Q1. Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) and advantages of it compared to
Packet Filter Firewall:
The firewall is considered to be filter or network security system that controls and
monitors the incoming traffic in a particular network and prevents the unauthorized access of any
entity into the network. The next generation firewall (NGFW) is regarded as the hybrid
combinational firewall which is combined with a traditional firewall and other filtering devices
using techniques such as DPI and IPS (Frahim, Santos & Ossipov, 2014). The next generation
firewalls includes more number of layers in The OSI model which increases the network traffic
filtering.
The advantage of the next generation firewall compared to the packet filter firewall is that
the NGFW is capable of blocking the malwares from attacking the network which the packet
filtering firewall is not capable of (Neupane, Haddad & Chen, 2018). The overall cost of the
NGFW is also low compared to the wide range of services it provides.
Q2. Use of NGFW by Federal Government in order to stop adversaries:
The federal government monitors and controls various important websites which contains
highly important credentials of the government as well as the customers and the application of
the Next Generation Firewall helps in maintaining and securing those data from any malware or
network attacks (Erdheim, 2013). The NGFW also provides other applications such as integrated
prevention system, application awareness and also to use external intelligence sources. The
adversaries that are coming from the internet is also stopped and restricted by the NGFW and
thus network security is maintained.
