Introduction
The WHS or Workplace Health and Safety is a regulation imposed by the government
to ensure that all organisations including public, private and voluntarily are providing healthy
and harmless work environment to their employees (Loeppke et al. 2015). NIT Australia is an
educational organisation with the registration as an academic and educational independent
business operation (NIT Australia. 2019). Therefore, similar to other organisations NIT
Australia also has their own workplace health and safety policies, procedures, program and
practices. . The purpose of this report is to present the WHS organisation policies,
procedures, programs and practices of the chosen organisation named NIT Australia.
Organisation WHS operational systems
Policies
According the regulation of occupational health and safety as well as workplace
health and safety, as a registered academic training and educational organisation, NIT
Australia has 2 types of workplace health related policies namely policies for students and
policies for employees (NIT Australia. 2019). These health and safety policies include the
emergency procedure and welfare support for both native as well as individuals who come
from overseas. NIT Australia also has a fire and emergency and critical incident policies as
a major part of WHS policies (nitaustralia.edu.au 2016). The major policies related workforce
health and safety and occupational health and safety are the emergency reporting policies,
emergency inspection policies, incident management policy, training policy and emergency
contact policy.
Procedures
Under the student welfare service and staff welfare service NIT Australia advocate a
set of procedures that includes the health and disability supports, Overseas Student Health

Cover (OSHC), Fire emergency and Critical Incident procedures. The OSHC procedures
include providing the healthcare support to the students and employees who have come from
other nations. The WHS procedure includes both training and facilitation procedures to
ensure emergency contingency and mitigation implementation. WHS emergency procedures
include the communication procedure, procedure for emergency evacuation, procedure of
first aid and procedure to handle life threatening emergency.
Programs
NIT Australia has their own training program for both the employees as well as the
students are provided with a policy handbook that consists of healthcare policies and
procedure and the emergency contact procedures. This training program also teaches the
audience how to communicate with the higher authority in case of any emergency. NIT
Australia has their health and safety audit program to ensure the adequacy of the existing
health and safety measures and procedures (nitaustralia.edu.au 2016). This program also
evaluates the existing risks to develop the most effective mitigation and contingency plan
including, facilitation and training.
Practices
NIT Australia does not have a specific set of healthcare practices. However, they have
a set of code of conducts for both students and the employees including teaching and non
teaching staffs. The purpose of this code of conducts is to regulate and control the regular
operational practices within the premises of NIT Australia. NIT Australia also arranges a set
of PPE or personal protective equipments for any potential emergency situation. The students
and employees are informed about how to communicate with the management or to raise
alarm in case of any risky situation (nitaustralia.edu.au 2016). The organisation mainly uses
