PART A
The existing WHS policy in the NMC auto care is not free from flaws. There are various
areas that can be changed and new recommendation should be implemented in the work place. By
evaluating the current policy, it is noted that there is no proper smoking policy in the current policy.
So, written smoking policy should be developed and implemented. This policy should ban smoking
from the workplace and indoor areas. Workers should be encouraged to quit smoking. According
to the, The Tobacco Products Regulation Act 1997, smoking is prohibited in all enclosed
workplace. The employer should ensure that workers health is safe under the Work Health and
Safety Act 2012 as this policy is not mentioned in the existing policy of NMC auto care ( Safework
SA, 2019).
PART B
There are a few principles regarding WHS policies and those principles should be followed by
all the employees and as well the employers of the auto care center of NMC. The principles are as
follows-
1) The duties cannot be transferred.
2) One or more person can have the same task.
3) A person may have more than one duty
4) Risks should be minimized as much as possible.

• Adequate information regarding all the hazards
• Provide protective equipment to the workers

PART C
In the current NMC auto care policies, there are no financial and human resource procedures
that are required for the successful implementation of the WHS policy in the NMC auto care. The
following measures can be implemented.
• The policy should allow to offer rewards to the employees who are performing in a good
manner.
• There should be a good compensations for the workers that contains insurance and claim
for work place injury and work related disorders.
• Experienced WHS officers should be appointed to improve the condition of the work place
and they should promote various ways to minimize workplace hazards in order to enhance
the workplace health and safety.
• All the workers should have the opportunities to grow in their carrier and a beautiful work
place should be provided to the workers of the organization ( Safework SA, 2019).

In the current situation of the NMC auto care it is observed that, participative management is
not present in the organization. As a part of the participative management, following measures can
be implemented.
• Before buying any equipment for the organization, it is recommended to take view from
the workers of the organization.
• Before implementing a new policy or taking a decision, all the staffs should be informed.
• All the staffs should have the chance to raise their thoughts regarding the work place.
TASK 2
From the WHS policies meeting a few issues were noted by the WHS manager. In order to
resolve those issues, following steps can be taken.
a) It is observed that, a light globe is flickering in the reception area. As a WHS officer, it is
recommended that, this light globe should be replaced with a stable light as the reception
area need more light as the area is not so big. Therefore a little light may cause fall on the
floor.
b) The paper of the photocopier is kept on a high place and the user have to take a stool to
take the paper. As a part of the recommendation, the paper should be kept near the machine
so that the user easily can take it without having any awkward posture and as a result the
risk of falling from the stool will also be minimized.
c) The indicative logo of fire evacuation should be placed in the area so that each and every
staff can have the information regarding fire exit of the office as it is noted that office staffs
do not have the idea about the fire evacuation.

d) In addition, it is noted that, in last three months, 3 cases of back injuries have been reported.
In order to minimize such cases, repetitive movements of the workers must be minimized
and required protective devices can be given to the workers. In addition, the amount of
handled load by the staffs can be reduced.

From the hazard identification checklist a few safety issues are identified and those
issues should be resolved as soon as possible. The safety issues are-
• Workers have to do work in a awkward posture for a long period of time while
having postures like forward bending or upright position. In addition, they have to
handle heavy loads during their work as well. There is no measures to minimize the
repetitive movements of the certain part of the body.
• All the equipment have not proper safeguard.
• There is safety data sheet for the hazardous chemicals.
• The floors have a minimum area to walk due to equipment of the warehouse and
all the areas have not proper light exposure. Due to the clumsy floor area, chances
of slip, trip and fall are very high.
• Routine inspection is not conducted
• Fire exists are not marked with proper signage

TASK 2
In order to implement the hierarchy of control in the NMC auto care at first, the use
of personal protective device should be encouraged in order to minimize the risks of
physiological problems due to the awkward posture, repetitive movements of a particular
organ. After that redesign of the existing work place layout and the used equipment can be
recommended. This is under the engineering control of the work place. The last step of the
hierarchical control is the elimination of the hazards completely. In this work place, staffs
should be recommended to use PPD. After that redesign of the work place can be done.
TASK 3
The current Hazard identification process of NMC auto care failed to assess the risk
physical hazards, manual tasks related hazards, risks of physical hazards. As a result, 3
cases of back injuries of the staffs was reported in last 2 months and the assessment of the
work area had not been done properly. As a part of the new hazard identification a few
changes can be recommended and implemented. It is observed in the current policy of
NMC auto care that, during any manual tasks there is high risk of injury due to the awkward
posture, forward bending, load handling. In addition, the new workers are more vulnerable
to injury as they are still in the developing stage of the physical strength of the body. In

replaced with the automatic tools. To minimize the load of manual material, heavy
materials can be replaced with the light weighted modern equipment. As the workplace is
not so big, the redesign of the workplace can also be an important modification. Moreover
it is very crucial to take the views of the workers before any equipment as the workers will
use those equipment during their work. During the assessment, it is observed that the use
of personal protective equipment is not mandatory during the welding of vehicles. So as a
WHS officer, it is recommended that, the PPE should be mandatory during any kind of
such works. In addition, the floor should be cleaned and properly enlightened as it is noted
that automotive warehouse space is filled with various equipment and as a result there is a
chance of slip trip and fall. Although, still no such incidents are not reported yet. In the
floor, mats can be attached and all the walkways must be marked with correct signage. A
good house-keeping should be introduced as there is no such policy in the NMC auto care.
As the workers are continuously exposed to the dusts, asbestos, silica from the paint of the
cars, used oils for the cars, there should be a regular health monitoring program for the
staffs of the auto care. PPE should be recommended during the work. The organization
should arrange a visit of WHS officer in a regular manner to supervise all the safety
equipment and measures.
