Whenever there is a communication that does not involve actual verbal translation it is a nonverbal
communication.
It involves the use of signs and body movements to bring a meaning.
There is a specific meaning that is brought about by a particular sign
This mode of social exchange by signs is perceptual and may mean different things all together in different
environments (Burgoon et al, 2016) .
This kind of communication is used by a wide range of people from very young children where it helps in
making their parents understand their needs, pains and discomforts
Nonverbal behaviors
Black American
Ok sign used to show acceptance.
Winking of an eye is considered as a romantic
invitation.
Standing holding hips is used to symbolize
power or pride.
There is a different Paralanguage.
Japanese
Ok sign shows money.
The winking of an eye is considered as a rude
gesture.
Holding hips may mean anger.
There is a different paralanguage.
Uses of the nonverbal cues
The first person I picked was a black American
who is also a catholic.
The other was a Japanese who is also a Christian
but not a catholic.
Description of my two
different picks
There are some hereditary characteristics that are
passed on from parents to their children and they
are different from location to location. Such as
development of different body structures, that
affects how they will talk and express their
gestures.
Modeling of by role models. In some cases,
children will tend to nature what their parents
like to exhibit such as nonverbal patterns.
These reasons outlined herein, affect much on
the patterns and meanings of different nonverbal
behaviors that are displayed from generation to
generation (Leathers & Eaves, 2015). On my
findings, these are the reasons that I believe to
have influenced the kind of difference in
nonverbal behaviors that I observed.
Reasons for the differences
Apart from the nonverbal cues discussed, there
are many more.
Facial changes such as change in blinking
frequency, more speech latency, and less body
illustrations are some of cues that can tell a lie.
Both verbal and nonverbal communications
are used to help pass across an information in a
conversation(Neill, 2017).
Conclusions
Expression of emotions. People use these cues
to express their emotions depending on what
they are going through ( Siegman & Feldstein,
2014)
Modification of speech.
Displays personality and status
Considerations for selection.
Religion. For my considerations, I based much
on religion since it has a lot of influence on
nonverbal cue. For example, some Christians
such as Catholics use signs when praying and on
the other hand, in the Islamic religion, signs are
also used
Origin. different people from different parts of
the world may have different meanings for the
same sign or expression (Burgoon et al, 2016).
Language. , language is also affecting nonverbal
behaviors depending on the structure of words
and sentences (Stratou et al, 2015) .
