Research Paper and PowerPoint
Research papers aims to provide an opportunity to learn and research the issues related to urban
and regional planning in your country, region, city, or any other administrative body. You are
asked to prepare two written presentations (a research paper and a power-point) on the findings.
The topic of your paper can be research or case study on any planning-related issue, such as the
ones we discuss in this course. However, your paper should be an in-depth survey/analysis of
the issue/case that you selected, not a summary of the corresponding articles and/or projects.
It is essential for success as a student and as a professional that your paper is written in a
clear, well-structured, and logical manner.
A typical structure of your research paper would be:
1) Survey the planning issues in your country, region, city, or any other administrative body;
2) Review issues and select one (or more) issue(s) for the paper;
3) Seek out further information/data about the issue(s) that you selected above;
4) Critically analyze the information using the knowledge and framework that you learned in this
course; and
5) Conclude with your policy recommendations.
Your paper consists of the following two parts:
1) Research Paper (5 minimum- maximum 8, not including references and cover page,
double spaced typewritten pages in length): Elaborate about 1) and 2) , including
background and objectives of your research paper. Then, write 3), 4), and 5) above,
describing the collected information and framework of your analysis, displaying and
explaining your analysis, and providing policy recommendations and future research
agenda.
Both paper power-point and final paper should be tailored to either an academic audience, or
public or public sector officials. All referenced material needs to be documented in MLA or APA
format. You may turn in assignments early BUT not late
