INTRODUCTION
Notetaking is the practice of recording information from different sources and platform that
used by students to develop their understanding and managing activities. Whenever a student
learns something and participate in any activity then it needs to prepare the notes which can help
to improve the skills and abilities of an individual (Arreola and Al Janabi 2020). The note taking
is a format which is used by student to summarise all learning in the form of short notes that used
to develop understanding and managing all activities. The current report is based on importance
of note taking and how it is used. This can help to improve knowledge and manage functions.
MAIN BODY
Note taking
It is termed as an exercise of writing and recording key points of information from
different sources as well as platforms in concise format. Through note taking writer’s mind is
free from having stress to recall information for longer period. Notes are primarily drawn from
relevant source which gives writer an access to true information. It is responsibility of writer to
identify reliable source and generate useful information from them. It especially benefits students
in following ways:
It is beneficial for students especially college ones, by writing this, information is implanted
in their mind. This can improve active listening in classroom. Even students can help their
absentees friend by taking Xerox and screenshots of notes. It aids in keeping body as well as
mind active and avoid drowsiness along with distraction from lectures. It essentially aids in
boosting up organisational and creative ability of students as it helps in making difference
between relevant and irrelevant content. It is a vital tool in increasing memory retention. Just by
sitting in a classroom a student attains nothing but by recording notes it aids in increasing
productivity of their conscious. This will also increase comprehension writing and speed of
student (Liu 2019).
Sources of information
It can be termed as anything which informs an individual about some information which
matters to him. Information can be collected through various sources such as books, personal
experiences, Blogs and many more. It is duty of information collector or gatherer to identify
reliable and relevant source. These sources of information are widely divided in two aspects

namely reliable and non- reliable. Realiable sources are trustworthy and written by experts or
professionals in that particular field, for instance, books, scholarly articles, PhD. Dissertations
and researches, etc. Unreliable resources are those which can be altered by anyone who may or
may not have thorough knowledge about topic, for instance, Wikipedia, tweets, blogs, personal
websites and many more. Whenever an user uses the collected information for writing down a
research paper or doing an assignment one should use reliable sources. One should need to
understand the reliability of information sources so that it can benefit readers. Various benefits of
using sources of information are they provide wider scope of researching a topic, accessed easily
have structured abstract and breadline the overview of literature. It also aids in pointing out good
quality articles and critically evaluated studies that further helps in making the research project
more relevant and reliable.
Referencing and paraphrasing
Reference is a relationship between objects in which one objects acts, and designates that
connecting to author while providing information. Whenever students write about specific topic
then it need to use reference that shows as an evidence of getting information from particular
sites and managing data. Paraphrasing is the presenting ideas and opinion in own words that can
help to develop the understanding and knowledge in relation to particular topic. If students have
written by using internet and not explains in their words that creates the problems (Jansen,
Lakens and IJsselsteijn 2017).
References based on Harvard style as it involves two places in a piece of writing in the
text and in a reference list at the end. In Harvard style author name appears in the text and
reference list. In every work and sharing information regarding particular topic it is important to
use reference in Harvard style and managing all learning. Referencing is a way to provide
evidence to support the assertions and claims in your own assignments. White writing and taking
notes it should be remember to students that use reference properly that is an evidence of sharing
the knowledge and skills with others and reach to the conclusion. This support to improve ability
and skills of thinking that provides positive outcomes.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the representation of thoughts, ideas, and opinion which developed by
others and limits to thinking of such people. In other words, turning in someone else’s work as
own is known as plagiarism. When an individual is unable to think and use other’s content in

their own work then there are chances of plagiarism and affects individual working. The type of
plagiarism Direct Plagiarism, Mosaic Plagiarism, Self-Plagiarism, and Accidental Plagiarism
occurs while working. The reason of arising plagiarism is using or copying the content of others.
To avoid plagiarism students should be aware, do not copy other’s content, develop their
own ideas and opinion, keeping good quality of notes, use of quotation marks, and using range of
sources that directly impacts on student learning and creates problem. The students are advised
to avoid copying notes while preparing their notes and learning (Rummer and et. al., 2017).
Presentation skills
Presentation skills can be explained as set of abilities that enable individuals to interact with
the audience, transmit the message with clarity. Whenever notes have been prepared then needs
to present in front of all who that can help to improve the skills and ability to work continuously.
The presentation skills used to engage the audience in the presentation, and interpret and
understand clearly that supports to manage all activities and functions. This is most important for
students to develop their presentation skills by understanding a topic clearly and bringing
changes in their thoughts which supports to develop organizational as well as individual
performance.
The main factor of presentation skills passion and connect with audience, focusing on
audience needs, making eye contact with all audience that can help to build confidence while
sharing or presenting ideas (Husain and et. al., 2017).
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion, note taking, sources of information, referencing, paraphrasing,
plagiarism and presentation skills is essential and beneficial for students, researchers as well as
scholars. These aids them in gaining relevant information, finding out any pirated material,
enhancing rephrasing techniques and presentation skills.
