The public health is wide field. The public health plays significant role in prevention
of diseases. The public health observation has led to recognition and ranking the public health
problems facing the world. The ranking of public health issues is significant. There are many
public health issues. Transportation is one of the major public health issue. The bad and
ineffective decision in respect of transportation may led the health issue. The risks related to
transport enforces a substantial burden on the public health.
In this essay, the public health issue namely transportation, impacts of transportation
on health and suggestion are discussed.
Issue
The impacts of transport on health is current major health issue. The transport services
play major role in the economy of any country. However, the transport affects health in
various ways. The main disparity is that the advantages normally occur to richer people and
harms occur to the poor and depressed people. The harms involve injuries and damages from
falls or accidents, health effects of air and noise pollution, changes in environment, inactive
behaviour with motors, obstructions in busy roads and impacts on disparities. The effects on
human health of transport are extensively identified. The bad and ineffective decision in
respect of transportation may led the health issue. The risks related to transport enforces a
substantial burden on the public health (Goldstein, 2017).
Impacts of transport on health
The transportation infrastructure has various forms. It affects the life of human being
in many ways. It is the question to be considered that how the transportation systems may
affect the health of people in direct way or indirect way.

How the transport affects population-
In some backward areas, the improvement in highway facilities and airport
availability encourages the growth of population and in residential area, airport accessibility
encourages the growth of population but availability of highways enables the population
flows. In urban areas, neither highways nor airports have substantially effect over the changes
of population (John & Greaves, 2016).
Impacts at local, state, and national level-
Transportation system has key influence on the public health at local, state, and
national level. The level of obesity is high in the United States. The active transportation
plays the important role in stopping the risks related to public health. The transportation
system is designed in a way so that it may promote non-motorized transport. It may lead
positive health effects on human being. The cost of medical treatment and the lost efficiency
is higher. The transportation system in country is great source of air pollution and noise
pollution. The pollution generates many diseases such as asthma and diseases related to lungs
(Cope & Harrison, 2011).
Evidences about transport issue-
The motor vehicle accidents are major sources of accidental injury deaths in the
United States. The vehicle related injuries, damages and death are direct influences of
transport system on health. There are number of accidents every year in USA. High speeds
are considered dangerous for walkers and cyclists at the time of accident. Verified measures
exist to decrease the speed of vehicles to the safety level for every person on the road. The
resources in actions have chains of communal speed decrease resources for local, state, and
national legislators, public health officers, and policymakers (Raynault & Christopher, 2013).

Problem statement
The transportation has been a serious problem facing United States for the last decade.
Poor transportation facility causes air pollution and noise pollution. It creates public health
issues. Deficiency of proper public transit generates an obstruction to health care access for
the population who depends on the transportation (Straker & Stoklosa, 2017).
The various methods have been projected in relation to combat this issue. The actions
such as pollution control measure and public awareness programmes are needed to solve this
issue.
Suggestions
Actions by relevant stakeholders
One of the most important need is access to good healthcare. Many people face
transportation problem in United States. The government officials and administrators are
required to take necessary actions. The government should promote the number of taxi
services in each area. It is also required to increase the capacity in public trains and metros in
cities. The strict traffic rules should be formed by the government to combat the problem of
air pollution and noise pollution and to reduce the accidents (Centres for disease control and
prevention, 2015).
Budget or funding considerations
In United States, the responsibilities for the transportation system are to bear by state
government. States should maintain the transport asset in proper way. The state is required to
plan the transport budget and co-operate with local governments. The governments should
funding and finance the transportation system in effective way in interest of state. The proper
finance mechanism should use in preparing transport budget (University of Wisconsin
population health institute, 2016).

Impact on the health care delivery system
Each country develop the health care delivery system to recognise the significance of
public health programmes so that occurrence of various diseases, disability, and health
discriminations can reduce. The citizens depend on safe and simple transportation so that they
can travel to the clinics and hospitals. The members of organisation also require transport
services to provide facilities. The health care organisations provide mobile clinics by the
health programmes and systems. The health care delivery system address the needs of
patients such as need of transportation by the application of various strategies. These
strategies involve evaluating the effect of transportation on health of public (World health
organisation, 2017).
Conclusion
As per the above discussion, it can conclude that the common factors such as
transportation is significant for better health equity. This issue affects people at the different
stages. The transport is one of the most common obstacle to facilitate health services for the
children and older adults. The obstruction to the transportation and lack of transportation can
restrict the citizens to live healthier life. By making obligations and assurances the
transportation obstructions, the health organisation, clinic, or hospitals can develop the
transportation system to form healthier groups. The government should take various
necessary steps at national level or state level to improve the health care services.
