Introduction
The NSW government is primarily focussed on improving the lives of children
and families that are vulnerable with better policies, laws and systems. There are
various legislations that provide a framework which governs the overall well
being of the children and providing them with protection. In Australia, the state as
well as territory governments have the responsibility of protecting children who
are either vulnerable or at risk of being harmed.

Child Protection Services
A large number of children living in Australia receive child protection from the
NSW government and the number continues to rise. The state as well as territory
governments in Australia primarily focuses on providing protection to children
who are vulnerable or at risk of being harmed. There are various studies that have
been conducted for the same and the results show that nearly 63% of children in
Australia were living out of their home care or with Indigenous caregivers (Child
protection, 2020).

Major Challenges of Child Protection
System
There are many challenges that are faced by the Child Protection System like
child labour, pregnancy in teens, homelessness among the youth, promotion of
well being of children, transition to adulthood etc. The number of children who
are at risk of being abused, harmed or being vulnerable is constant rising in
Australia. This has increased the overall need to provide the best possible services
to the customers. Vulnerable children and their families do not have access to
good and clean hygienic homes.

How NSW Child Protection System

Children as well as young people are considered to belong to the most vulnerable
groups within the Australian society. The NSW Child Protection System is primarily
committed to promoting the well being as well as overall health and well being of

NSW identify, consult as well as respond to the different situations wherein a child
or a young person is at major risk of either being harmed or becoming vulnerable.
For example, Aboriginal children in OOHC, children dealing with a disability in
foster care, family separation etc.

protection system. Child protection system is an important component in
Australia because practitioners across various NGOs ensure that both children as
well as young people receive the support that they need. This helps the children in
receiving the best support possible. Both Aboriginal as well as Torres Strait
Islander children are represented widely in the child protection system.

Children and their family environment
It is important to taken into account the relationship that children who are
vulnerable or at risk of getting harm or abused share with their respective families
neighbourhoods as well as the wider surroundings. This is because it helps in
conducting relevant and appropriate assessments of the children and families that
are in need. The views of children and young people about how they are treated
by the NSW social care workers can provide an in depth view of their individual
experiences.

The Global Cultural differences
It is a known fact that different countries across the world have different cultures
and thus the NSW child protection system ensures that these differences are
bridged. The Child Protection and Child Well being Legislation that is established
by the NSW government, takes into account the differences in culture, language,
religion as well as disability of the child. Besides this, as far as the name,
religion, culture, language and identity are concerned, they are also preserved.
There are special provisions for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
and their families under the Act.

Conclusion
From the above presentation, it can be concluded that NSW Child Protection
System forms an important part of the nation. This is because it takes into account
the needs of the children who are vulnerable or at the risk of being abused or
harmed. The protection system takes into account the various cultural differences
between the children as well as their families. Not only this, it has proved to be
useful in identifying the the children and their experience of how they have been
treated by their families.

Recommendations
The demand for receiving support among vulnerable children and their families in
constantly increasing. This has made it important to address the problem and
protect vulnerable children from getting impacted by any kind of harm. There are
various NGOs that work towards addressing this issue and helping these children
to live a healthy and positive life. Therefore, it is recommended that the NSW
government keeps revising the regulations so that the needs are kept into
consideration.
