Report
AI Summary
This report presents a research inquiry into the causes and effects of long waiting times in NSW hospital emergency departments. The introduction highlights the problem of prolonged waiting times and their negative impact on patient health, as well as the challenges faced by hospitals due to overcrowding and resource limitations. The research aims to identify the causes and effects of these long queues. The methodology section outlines the research philosophy (positivism), approach (deductive), and design (explanatory). Data collection will involve secondary data from peer-reviewed journals, government reports, and hospital blogs. The report includes a detailed timeframe for the research process. The report is structured to investigate the relationship between waiting times and patient outcomes and to propose recommendations for improving emergency department operations. The report also includes references to relevant literature.

Topic: Causes and effect of long waiting in NSW hospital’s emergency department
1. Introduction
The long waiting queues in the NSW hospital’s emergency department have significantly
affected the health of the patients while waiting for a proper attention (Yarmohammadian et al.,
2017). On the other hand, the lack of professionals in addressing the needs of the patients and
lack of suitable resources affected the capabilities of the hospital in adhering to the healthcare
needs of the critical patients. Overcrowding in the emergency department affected the
capabilities of the hospital staff and doctors in adhering to the needs of the patients (Lutze et al.,
2014). Therefore, the development of the operations in the emergency department is based on
the crowd management and the induction of professional staffs in the department.
1.1 Statement of the problem
The problem that will be evaluated in the study will be based on identifying the cause and
effect of the degrading service quality and lack of professional approach on handling patients in
the emergency department.
1.2 Research aim
The aim of undertaking the research is to identify the causes and effects of long waiting
queues in the NSW hospital’s emergency department.
1.3 Research objectives
The research objectives will be:
To understand the significance of the healthcare needs of the patients in the emergency
department

3RESEARCH ENQUIRY
To evaluate the manner in which the long waiting queues in the emergency department of
NSW hospital affect the health conditions of the patients
To identify the relationship between the causes and effect of long waiting in NSW
hospital’s emergency department To recommend activities for developing the operations in the NSW hospital’s emergency
department
2. Methodology
2.1 Research Philosophy
The research will be undertaken through the utilization of the positivism philosophy,
which will help in identifying the causes and the effects of the degrading service quality in the
NSW hospitals through delineation of reality. The philosophy will help in maintaining the
efficiency of the research through enabling the same in utilizing scientifically proven techniques,
which will help in maintaining the accuracy of the observations (Choy, 2014).
2.2 Research Approach
The research will be undertaken through the application of deductive approach, which
will help in facilitating and synthesizing data from the different available sources. The approach
will be helping in maintaining the efficiency of the study through the application of relevant and
effective models for identifying the causes and effects of the degrading service quality through
the longer waiting queues in the emergency department of the NSW hospitals.
2.3 Research Design
The explanatory research design will be followed throughout the study with the aim of
evaluating the cause-effect relationship between the long waiting in NSW hospital’s emergency

department and the degrading health of the patients. On the other hand, the research design will
also help the study in forecasting the future course of actions that might be undertaken by the
NSW hospitals while attending to the needs of the patients in the emergency department. The
design of the research will help the same in guiding the same towards the unbiased outcomes in
accordance to the objectives.
2.4 Data collection process
Secondary data will be collected for the research through the assessment of different
available peer- reviewed journals, government reports and blogs of the NSW hospitals.
Secondary data collection method will be helping to evaluate the different causes and effects of
the degrading service quality and the lack of professionals through enumeration of available
nursing based models and theories (Hyett, Kenny & Dickson-Swift, 2014). Therefore, the
secondary data collection method will help in supporting the findings through concrete evidences
from different case studies and nyursing based journals.
