Using numeracy, Data and IT

INTRODUCTION
Numeracy skills refers to the ability to use as well as interpret the mathematical
information in order to solve the real world problems. This in turn include the ability to
understand basic problem by using math in order to generate the best outcomes. Further, the
present study also assists to increase the skills pertaining to IT and numeracy. The present study
is based upon 3 parts where each section helps to understand the importance of numeracy, skills
and IT in order to generate the best outcomes. Thus, the report will provide an appropriate
answer by using basic math and IT skills through graphical presentation.
PART 1
Question 1
Numerator can be written as a factor and it is represented as a/b form. Here, the number
‘a’ is known as a numerator. Further, it is a Latin word which means number and it is always
recognized as a fraction which is recognized as a number of parts that needs be considered
(Lagisquet and et.al., 2021).
On the other side, denominator is that part of a fraction where below number is
recognized as denominator. For example, in the x/y, ‘y’ is recognized as denominator and it is
also work as a divisor of the numerator which indicate the equal parts of a number in a defined
set (Craig, 2018). Also, the numerator represents the number of parts out of whole, recognized as
a denominator.

24/40 can be written as 3/5
18/42 can be written as a simplest form in 3/7
The steps in order to get the above answer is such that determine the Highest common factor
(HCF) of both numerator as well as denominator. Therefore, for 24 and 40, the HCF is 8 or 18,
whereas for 18 and 42, it is 6. Moreover, divide the numerator and denominator by the chosen
HCF. Through this, it will be easy to get an answer in a reduced form or lowest form.

To calculate the total savings, she paid 70% amount, let total discount be 100% and 30% is
offered as a discount so, 70% is consider as a paid.
Thus, 70% = £210
= 210 / 70 = £3
So, 1% is £3, then 100% will be £300
Therefore, the total saving = £300 - £210 = £90
b) In order to calculate the average saving per person, divide the amount by 3 (because patty and
her 2 sibling)
£90 / 3 = £30

By simplifying this,
3/4 = 0.75
7/9 = 0.78
2/3 = 0.66
= 0.75 – 0.78 + (0.66)

Therefore, 3/5 total people said yes = 3/5 * 150 = 90
Here, 3/10 women said yes which in turn shows that3/10 of 90 = 27 are women
So, 90 – 27 = 63 men supposed yes

Whereas, men who said no = 90 – 63 = 27
Thus, 27 males said no from the total population.

The time of conference in Birmingham is 10:30 AM. So, she takes to leave at 8:00 Am from her
family. As per the arrival time of time, she takes 1 hour to be at station i.e. 9:00 AM. However,
Birmingham train run at following 5 minutes, 25 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour. Thus,
she will be on time i.e. 9:58 AM.
As per the schedule of train, she will be reach at 10:15 AM. Also, the conference site in
Birmingham is 5-minute waking distance from station so she will be reached the venue at 10:20
AM. Hence, it can be stated that she will be reach exactly 10 minutes before the meeting as per
the given information.

The mass of Shredded wheat is 0.35 kg, whereas the box of Weetabix weights is 9/25 kg
i.e. 0.36 kg. This in turn shows that Weetabix is denser by 0.01 kg than other.

From the given table, it has been identified that Hungary is the only country which has a
lowest number of overall medals from the top 10 countries because it has received only 491
medals till the specified date.

There are 10 games completed by China and Soviet Union and these two are the only
country which completed the required number of games within a summer Olympics Games.

Mode refers to the repetitive number within a given data set. That is why, it can be stated
from the defined data set i.e. 27 is the number of matches which is repetitive during entire
matches. Hence, the mode is 27.

d)
The range of the given data can be defined as difference between maximum and
minimum value which means that 1022 – 147 = 875. It can be derived from the data set provided
which includes overall countries list.
e)
There are 4 countries which got silver model as compared to Bronze medal such as
China, Great Britain, Soviet Union, United States.
f)
In accordance with the given data set, it has been identified that there are only two
countries which includes Soviet Union, Germany.
g)
In order to determine the maximum number of medals received per following calculation
used.
In accordance with the above table, it has been identified that Soviet Union is the only
country who perform the best as comparing to the model per game.

h)
The two reasons which stated that Jamaica is the country which is participate in the event
and not even suitable for the athletics is such that:
 The population of the quoted country is quite low as compared to other one and that is
why, the chances of getting involves within the athletics is low (Yasukawa and et.al.,
2018).
 Another reason of not participated in the games is such that the country does not have
enough and able competent to take part in the games, as other country has strong
competent where they can make their country proud.
i)
In order to determine the category of medal, in which US far outperformed its closest
competitor, the following steps has been taken which is as mentioned below: Also, the biggest
and closet competitor of US is Soviet Union and also, by using the formula of number of medal
category of Soviet Union divided by number of medals category. These is as mentioned below:
Gold 440/ 1122* 100 43.05%
Silver 357/790*100 44.96%
Bronze 325/704* 100 46.16%
As per the above calculation, it has been clearly identified that US performed well i.e.
43.05% well in order to get the Gold medal as compared to other countries.
j)
There are three countries which had greatest consistently dispersed number of gold, silver
and bronze medal., the following formula has been used in order to get the accurate results.
Maximum number of define category in each column / Minimum number of define
category in each column. Thus, the calculation for each country is as mentioned below:

In accordance with the above table, the nations which have evenly most dispersed amount
of Gold, silver and Bronze i.e. least small range are Hungary, Italy, Germany.
