How do my learning goals support my commitment to continuing competence?
The various learning goals will help in supporting continuing competence. An example is
Learning goal #1; it helps me to support my commitment to maintaining competence because it
enables me to learn the documentation system that is in place. Proper documentation should be
easily understood by fellow colleagues and other healthcare workers. Without appropriate
documentation, patient care quality will decrease, and the patient satisfaction rate will drop.
There will be a lot of confusion in healthcare organizations.

Without forgetting, learning goal #2 can also help in continuing competence because it equips
me with skills and knowledge on what to do when faced with a dilemma during professional
activities. While conducting the daily activities, nurses are faced with several moral, financial,
ethical, organizational ad personal dilemmas. The code of ethics acts as a moral compass to help
the registered nurse make a decision that is morally acceptable to the community. Learning goal
2 will enable me to improve health care delivery and promote the well-being of the patient
Finally, learning goal 3 will support my commitment to continuing competence because it gives
me the necessary knowledge and experience to build a proper nurse patient therapeutic
relationship. Nurses have a significant role to play in the healing process of a patient. A proper
nurse patient relationship can speed up the healing process and result in holistic well-being. The
activities in learning goal #3 will give me the necessary experiences that are required in building
a relationship with a patient.
Evaluation of changes/outcomes to my practice
There are various outcomes which will arise from my practice. I will be able to understand the
code of ethic and easily refer to it when faced with a dilemma. The code of ethics will also help
me make a decision that is morally upright and will promote patient care. The code of ethics will
also play a significant role in advising colleagues when faced with a dilemma in their
professional activities
Learning proper documentation will increase my competence level while working in a healthcare
organization. It will also enable other healthcare workers to be able to understand the patient
records when they refer to their medical history.

Finally, being aware of the role that a nurse plays in nurse patient therapeutic relationship will
help to improve healthcare delivery in the healthcare organization. It will also reduce length of
stay in hospital and improve the patient satisfaction rate as the patient will receive holistic care,
physically, mentally, and emotionally. Moreover, understanding the nurse patient therapeutic
relationship will also increase my competence level while working in a healthcare organization.
Volunteering at the local clinic will give me hands-on experience, and I will gain skills that
cannot be obtained in class.
