Introduction
As per Sheng et al. (2019) after joining the college, nursing students are often shy and
lack knowledge. The knowledge of nursing students grows as they further learn and
conceptualize the concepts in their field and connect with other students. However, professional
and academic support is essential for the success of these nursing students as this support will be
strengthen their confidence and help them become better nurses. This professional and academic
support can be attained through inter-professionally collaboration. The concept of
interprofessional collaboration is important in nursing as it offer nurses with a wide platform for
professional, academic and social communication in teamwork (Ehrlich et al. 2021). The
interprofessional collaboration is an excellent way for nursing student to share information and
resources (Fleming & Willgerodt, 2017). In addition, the Internet has opened up a wider domain
for students for interprofessional collaboration. Graham et al. (2018) explains that professional
networks are an integral part of nurses' ability to connect with others who share common
interests and knowledge. Interprofessional collaboration also helps nursing students in building
relationships, which helps them in getting group experiences and work together as a team.
Glasgow et al. (2018) also mention that interdisciplinary collaboration also offer-nursing
students with a wide professional network and personal development goals to enhance their
knowledge of patient care. Therefore, in my Week 1 exercise I have described the professional as
well as academic resources, which I strongly believe have helped me design and enhance my

Conclusion
To conclude, the interprofessional collaboration help me gain awareness of nursing
experience and extensive knowledge in many ways. Although nurses have learned a lot during
class, they need to discuss concepts from different angles in order to communicate with their

Week 3 | Module 2 | Part 2: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional
Ethics
Introduction
In the following, the task of Week 3 I have explored my concepts of professional ethics
and academic integrity that I have learned throughout my MSN program. This task comprised on
two parts, tin the first part I analyzed that relationship between academic integrity and writing, I
reviewed my learnings on professional practices and scholarly ethics. In the first part, I also
discussed the uses of Grammarly and Safe Assign for students and the contribution of
paraphrasing in maintaining academic integrity. In the second part, I presented strategies for
maintaining integrity of my work.
Part 1: Writing Sample: The Connection between Academic and Professional Integrity
“Relationship between Academic Integrity and Writing”
Academic integrity refers to the honesty and adherence to ethical principles and
guidelines involved in the writing of scholarly/ professional papers. As a student, I will be
expected to engage in academic writing, where academic integrity is a critical component of the
process. It will require me to adhere to the ethical guidelines and principles of developing
academic work by ensuring that I do not try to pass off someone else’s work as my own, and also
that I should not incorporate their work into mine without properly acknowledging them
(Newton, 2016)). Thus, upholding academic integrity is critical to writing since it requires the
adherence to and upholding of the ethical guidelines and standards of developing and writing
academic materials to ensure honesty and reliability.
“Relationship between Professional Practices and Scholarly Ethics”

Every profession has a set of standards or requirements by which the professionals are
expected to meet and abide. In addition, different workplaces/ institutions have a code of conduct
by which their staff are expected to uphold to create a culture of honesty. This is also the case in
academic circles where there are scholarly ethics by which the scholars are expected to apply as
part of the organizational and professional culture. Professional practices and scholarly ethics are
applicable to the nursing profession since a nurse is expected to abide by a set of professional
conduct that will influence how they execute their duties, and also in scholarly ethics; which will
influence their generation and use of evidence and research to inform nursing practice, improve
the profession and improve patient outcomes (Campano et al. 2015)

Integrity.”
Grammarly is a useful tool that helps in ensuring that the academic work is free from
grammatical errors and mistakes, which helps to uphold academic integrity by ensuring that
academic work meets the required standards (Irizarry, 2021). Safe Assign is useful to ensure that
the student submits their original work free from plagiarism, which is also key in ensuring
academic integrity by ensuring that scholars only submit their work and properly acknowledge
any work that may have been used in developing the paper (Reed, 2015). Paraphrasing
contributes to academic integrity by ensuring that the scholar reads and understands the material
before they can put it down in their own words. This helps to avoid plagiarism and to ensure
proper utilization of sources in the development of academic work.
Part 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work
One of the studies I intend to pursue to maintain academic integrity and ethics as an MSN
student is utilizing the Safe Assign feature, which will help me check and detect any plagiarized

portions of my work before submission. It will be important to use the feedback from Safe
Assign to go through the document and identify areas of my work that appear as plagiarized,
which will help me identify the problem and guide my future submissions. Another strategy is to
paraphrase my work, which will ensure that I understand the material I am reading and present it
in my own words according to my understanding, which will promote academic integrity.
Therefore, as a nursing student, there are always helpful strategies for maintaining
integrity and ethics to preserve originality, and student must check for plagiarism before
submitting a written academic work. My strategy as a qualified MSN professional is to be honest
in both academically as well as professionally, collaborate with other nurses, and always place
patients’ need on a priority.
As a professional, the “American Nurses Association (ANA)” code of conduct will be a
useful tool to help me understand the codes and ethics that guide the profession. By regularly
reviewing the ANA code of conduct, it will be possible to understand what is expected of me in
the profession and to ensure that I abide by the said standards during my career.
Conclusion
As a MSN student and nurse, I strongly believe that professional ethics and academic
integrity are primarily important as these reflect are honesty as a student and loyalty as a nurse.
From this activity, I have learned that academic integrity and professional ethics are the core
elements of being a successful MSN graduates. Additionally, Grammarly and Safe Assign are
two effective and most useful tools for students to help maintain academic integrity, as for
abiding with professional ethics the ANA code of conduct is useful platform for nurses.

In order to find peer-reviewed research, the strategy is to identify databases and websites

unverified information. Therefore, the strategy to identify peer-reviewed research is to use
databases such as the school library, Google scholar, or EBSCHost, among other sites, which
provide access to a database of peer-reviewed articles and journals.
One of the strategies I have found useful in finding peer-reviewed research, even when
using these sites, and even using a simple google search, it is possible to increase chances of
accessing a peer-reviewed article through the use of key words and Boolean terms to refine the
search and also to create a filter. For instance, on google scholar, it is possible to create a filter
such that only peer-reviewed articles are included in the results. One resource I intent to use to
find peer-reviewed research is CINAHL, which is a database that provides access to journal

articles of nursing and other fields related to health care. The journals are in English and they
have been indexed, making accessibility much easier. In addition, it is a reliable resource since
the journals are peer-reviewed, thus ensuring the reliability of the articles. However, a
subscription is required, and paying this subscription will increase my access to peer-reviewed
articles.

Week 11 | Module 6 | Part 4: Finalizing the Plan
Introduction
Before beginning with the Week 11, I have reviewed and explored several options for my
future nursing career, including careful consideration of the chosen (or currently preferred) MSN
nursing specialty as general nurse. I have also improved my understanding of choosing my future
preferred specialty. Additionally, I also reviewed the professional organization associated with
my preferred specialty and thought about becoming a member of that organization. I believe
nurses who participate in the MSN Nursing Program become Registered Nurses (NPs).
Registered Nurse is an advanced nurse who works directly with the patient, but has more roles
and responsibilities than general nurses has (Thomas et al. 2012). Therefore, in this assignment I
will compare and contract my choice of nursing specialties, discuss why I chose this nursing
specialty, and find professional bodies associated with the chosen nursing specialty.
“Step 1: Comparison of Nursing Specialties”
I have chosen one primary and one secondary specialty for my future role as a nurse, I
have selected “Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)” as my primary choice of
nursing specialty and my second choice is a “Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)”. According to
Chapman et al. (2019), PMHNP graduates have the knowledge and skills to meet individual
mental health needs throughout their life cycle. The PMHNP course includes symptom
management, psychopharmacology, psychiatric assessment and treatment. As per Halter &
Varcarolis (2014), a wide range of primary mental health services are offered by PMHNP,
including bio-psychosocial diagnosis and assessment of patients with mental disorders, mental
comorbidities and disorders. Therapies used in PMHNP include medication, psychotherapeutic
interventions and counseling. In addition, PMHNP is performed in a variety of settings,

including inpatient clinics, emergency departments, clinics, community mental health services,
and, private psychiatric clinics (Fraino & Selix, 2021).
Whereas on the other hand, the “Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)” specializes in clinical
nursing, research, and policy preparation for nursing students. According to Harper et al. (2017),
Primary care to people of all ages, from pediatrics to adults by FNP. Additionally, training is
given to FNP graduates to provide quality community and primary healthcare to patients having
complex health needs. It can be said that primary healthcare is at the heart of “Family Nurse
Practitioner (FNP)” activities as these nurses assesses and diagnoses diseases and develops a
treatment plan for individuals (Poronsky, 2013). Educating patients as well as their family
members about disease prevention and health care is also a part of FNP roles as are given
training on encouraging and empowering patients and their family members. The FNP has the
privilege of practicing an independent practice in many states of US that empowers FNP and
allows them to independently treat patients in private clinics, hospitals, or public clinics where
they contribute as primary care provider (Poronsky, 2013). FNP graduates work with different
groups of people in different clinical settings, including hospitals, clinics, private clinics, health
insurance institutions, and doctor's offices. By comparison, to PMHNP, I think FNP graduates
can obtain sub-fields or sub-specialties such as emergency medicine, cardiology, geriatric
therapy, oncological training, and endocrinology.
“Step 2: Justification of Nursing Specialty”
I chose PMHNP is my first choice of nursing specialty, which I wish to continue in my
future role because being mental health nursing is something I always wanted to do, I had firm
decision of pursing mental health nursing even before I joined the MSN program. My experience
working in a psychiatric hospital and providing lifelong mental health services has stimulated my

interest in mental health. I chose PMHNP to further enhance knowledge and skills in mental
health nursing and be able to understand the needs of the patient clearly (Phoenix et al. 2016).
Learning PMHNP increases my autonomy in professional working settings, which is a good
motivator for maintaining professional collaborations. I believe choosing in PMHNP in my MSN
program will provide me with the knowledge and skills to perform many clinical functions, such
as conducting physical and psychosocial assessments and differential diagnosis of mental health
problems (Halter & Varcarolis, 2014). symptoms through I can also manage the treatment of
patients, including the treatment of behavioral changes and medication, patient education and
psychotherapy.
The PMHNP role in mental health is constantly growing. PSMPH in our province are
fully responsible for assessing and diagnosing mental health problems and developing treatment
plans independently under the supervision of physicians. I chose PMHNP because I am not
limited to patient care, as I can take part in administrative, research, and educational activities. In
addition, the demand for mental health services has increased and as per Chapman et al. (2018)
this demand will continue to increase in the coming years. This rise in demand for PMHNP is
closely attributed to the increase in the number of Americans being insured and the “Affordable
Care Act” policies regarding mental healthcare (Beronio et al. 2014). According to Chapman et
al. (2018), the increased mental health services demand and awareness of mental health disorders
our in community have led to significant gaps in psychiatric care. Therefore, I believe there is a
strong demand for PMHNP involvement in mental health work. In addition, the demand for
mental health jobs should be strong in the coming years. That is why I chose PMHNP because it
offers great job prospects as well as it has promising financial rewards.
Step 3: Professional Organizations

For the abiding with the role of PMHNP, nurses are required to comply with the
“American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA)”. The APNA is committed for practicing
mental health care and promotes health and well-being through the mental health problems
identification, their prevention and treatment approach (Willis et al. 2010). It promotes mental
and psychiatric health through awareness in community, funding researches, and support recent
developments PMH nursing (Delaney & Vanderhoef, 2019). APNA members include all mental
health nurses, including advanced practice (APRN), baccalaureate (BSN), associate degree
(ADN), academicians, and nurse scientists (Willis et al. 2010). APNA also offers membership in
the “U.S. Department of Defense” for full-time nursing students, retired nurses, and PMH nurses
(Mysliwiec et al. 2020).
Conclusion
To conclude, in this MSN program I chose “Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
(PMHNP)” as my nursing specialty. The reason I decided for choosing PMHNP instead of my
second choice of FN is because I am interested in pursuing mental health studies and the mental
health services demand is growing rapidly which can offer me with promising financial
prospects. Additionally, In order to purse in PMHNP in my MSN program I am aware that I will
have to abide with the APNA principles dealing with mental and psychiatry and health.
