As a sincere student of Nursing, I have always wished to pursue the career of a Nurse
Manager that would allow me to ensure smooth day-day-operation in the healthcare organization
I would be working for, while also monitoring and supervising the performance of the nurses
working there. Accordingly, I have identified a few of my skills that will help me accomplish my
dream. First of all, I am highly patient, and organized as a person, and thus I will be able to
accomplish myriad daily tasks, without stressing out. I possess excellent communication skills
and effective analytical skills that will help me communicate my orders, supervise my
subordinates, and ensure effective resource utilization for maximum patient satisfaction. The
personal values I believe in, as a nurse leader comprises of my value to ensure patient
satisfaction, ability to offer compassionate treatment to each patient and his family, empathetic,
comprehensive solution to the illness of the patient, raising standard of care and offering learning
opportunities to each nurse practitioner. I wish to become a Nurse Manager as I do possess the
required skills, and acquire years of experience as a Manager before climbing up my career
ladder to become an educator in the nursing programs.
In order to conduct a relevant job search, I will first require identifying the job position I
wish to apply for, and the organizations that I might be willing to apply for. Accordingly, I
would create my Resume where I would mention my necessary skills and experience in the
relevant field and ask if there is any vacancy or not. I might also go the Career Page of the said
organizations, and discover if the company has announced any vacancy. I have tried to contact
some of the nursing professionals in this regard, and they have told me that I must create a career
network and open up an account on LinkedIn. I might also be using job searching websites like
CareerBuilder, Job.com and Indeed.

I have been searching for a job in the position of a Nurse Manager, and found the same
on Indeed.com. There is a vacancy in the Surgical Oncology department of Keck Medicine of
University of Southern California, where I will be entrusted with the duty of ensuring high
quality of patient care service and working in collaboration with the medical personnel and
administrative staff of the hospital.
In order to secure an interview in this position, I would apply for the job by
sending my resume to the given email id and accordingly would fix an interview with the HR
manager. I think I would be asked about my knowledge, skills and experience in the field of
nursing. I might also be asked about my perspective of organizational management, how would I
keep nurses motivated and how would I monitor and measure my subordinate performance. I am
preparing myself to ask basic questions to the HR Manager at the time of the interview, such as
what would be my salary, and what kind of career growth am I expected to enjoy in this position.
While applying for the job, I would like to create a resume highlighting my skills and
competencies that can be aligned with the basic job requirements of the position I am applying
for. For preparing myself for the interview, I would ask experienced Nurse Managers about the
expected questions, and the skills I might be asked to demonstrate. I would also conduct internet
search for this as well, and if required, I would enroll in a communication training plan to
strengthen my interpersonal communication skills.
