Hi Victoria, I like the way you have framed your cover letter from the beginning to the end. A
good cover letter is supposed to give the background information of the applicant focusing
mainly on the qualification which entails personal skills and attributes relevant to the job. This
has been adequately explained since, from the cover letter, the reader can easily identify your
abilities to determine how you link with the job. However, you could have talked about how this
opportunity will improve your career and even your relationship with the nurses association.
Otherwise, you did well in creating the cover paper since you have highlighted all the important
areas.

A patient-focused approach to care
I have to admit that you have explained the application of the DRABC framework well but I feel
that you did not apply the danger part. In my opinion, you were aware of the background of the
residence but you did not asses any dangers that could happen to you or the patients that you
were seeking to rescue. However, the strength of your post is based on your understanding of the
standards of practice and ethical issues that relate to the role that you were performing. I,
therefore, believe that you did the other parts but next time I think you need to assess the danger
of the place before you can move on to other stages of the DRABC tool.

This part has been explained well on your nursing self-education process but you have not
justified how this education meets standards 3,4,5, and 6 of nursing practice. Since this is a

personal account, I feel that you needed to have explained how you have gained skills for the

job requirements since it allows an understanding of the job role.

1) A patient-focused approach to care
I like the way you applied the patient autonomy approach by respecting the needs of the patient.
Through informed decision making and the NMBA standard 2 of practice, I think you did well.
However, I think that the patient also needed some counseling before choosing to forego
medication. Respecting patient rights, dignity and autonomy is an important requirement of the
second standard of practice since it relies on the needs of the patient. Thus I believe that you
have adequately met this criterion by linking the relationship between the needs of the patient
and the requirements of the nursing practice.

The positive approach to skills development has been discussed well through an exploration of
the different areas that you have focused on to improve your skills. From the post, it is evident
that you took an evidence-based approach to learn from the people that you were working with.
The NMBA standard 3 is important since nurses are supposed to realize that learning is an
ongoing process thus the reason why you have learned through performing different tasks with
the multidisciplinary teams. However, I think you needed to add the use of the NMBA standard 2
which is based on engaging in therapeutic and professional relationships through sustaining
relationships.

This post was done well through the application of the clinical reasoning cycle and management
of time. You have given an analysis of how the work you were assigned fits within the scope of

practice which is important in dealing with the patient situation. The use of the NMBA standard
of practice alone was not sufficient since I think standard 4 is also applicable to this situation
where a range of assessment tools was used. This standard also recognizes the importance of
working in partnership with other professionals. You have adequately met this criterion by
discussing the different skill areas that you have and how they relate to the practice

to work on your interpersonal skills to interact with other cultures. From here you have justified
how cultural diversity abilities can be developed through learning how to deal with the issues
within the work environment. In this case, you have adequately utilized the NMBA standard 1 to
deal with the diversity issues within the work environment. I feel that you have adequately met
the criteria for this assessment.
