CASE 1
Growth and development theories
Growth and development is a dynamic process which need to be determined under every
nursing sector. Both the factors are interdependent process which keeps on continuing under
human body for lifetime (Ascher & et.al., 2016). According to the given scenario it has been
reflected that Anne who is 10-year-old possess appendicitis disease can overcome her health
issues if provided with proper treatment under hospital. Further if healthcare professional adopts
several theories of growth and development that indicates its role under nursing such as-
Freud's Psycho-sexual Development Theory
Author states that child development takes place under different stages including- genital,
phallic, latency, anal or oral. These are determined as psycho sexual stages under human life.
Theorists says that life is full of tension and lot of pressure which is occurred due to Libido.
Changes in behavior and sexual energy occurs under different age stages (Hahn, Coricelli, & Di
Matteo, 2016). As per the case study, Anne has developed psycho sexual improvement which
helps in eradicating stress level that can further overcome issues prevailing under her physical
health. Development of puberty or hormonal changes can enhance the recovery process under
Anne's body.
Havighurst's Developmental Stages and Tasks.
Under this theory author determined under extensive and systematic manner. This theory
aids in developing physical health of every individual throughout their life span and provides the
best resolution to the problems which are emerging under human body (Storper, 2017). He
further states that a satisfied person can recover several health problems easily in short duration
as compared to those who are highly stressed and tensed. He further showcases that every human
should socially interact among environment to analyze every risks and uncertainties that may
affect human life. Therefore, he has determined that at the age of 10 years human generates
physical skills, reading writing and counting skills, enhances independence and develops
consistency in their values and beliefs (Altay, Kilicarslan-Toruner & Sari, 2017).

Adoption of this theory by nurses or health care professionals they can easily identify
ways which can systematically formulate plans to eliminate appendicitis problem under Anne
body for whole life span. Moreover, friendly interaction between Anne and nurses or other
service providers will establish sound environment among hospitals and makes the affected
person happy. Such affectionate surrounding enhances the recovery of pain within Anne and
reduces her enabled disease.
Levinson's Seasons of Adulthood.
Author highlights the development under adult's life. He states that depending over social
and physical environment every individual's life is structured and developed. This theory further
implies two key concepts – transitional period and stable period. Under stable period persons
start taking decisions of their own life whereas transitional period depicts the enhancement of
new phase of life. Theorists mainly focuses on stages that are presented under adult's life after
leaving adolescence (Matuschewski, Leick & Demuth, 2017).
Anne who is suffering from appendicitis health problem is not liable to take her own
decisions. However, her parents or healthcare professional must adopt this theory to frame
effective decisions which are relevant in eradicating health issues which are developing under
patient body. Thus, adoption of this theory will contribute in achieving development and growth
for her life span.
Erickson's stages of Psycho-social Development Theory
Theorists determines that every individual experience psycho social development under
eight stages starting from infancy to that of adulthood. Person develops crisis under every stage
regarding their personality and structure. Author even highlights the conflicts and problems
which are establishing due to culture and society (Meiri & et.al., 2016). This further build sense
of trust, identity, recognition and loyalty among individual. He has identified that this theory
develops the personality among individual which is recognized as epigenic principle. This
further establish skills and knowledge among individuals and aims in attaining maturation.
Healthcare professional or nurses must adopt this theory in treating Anne disease because
it benefits in developing structure or personality among individuals at different stages. However,
this will reduce risk factors which are encouraging due to appendicitis under Anne. Cited theory

will help nurses in understanding exact problem which emerges health deficiencies under patient
and can provide effective cure for recovering prevailing diseases.
Kohlberg's stage of moral development.
Author dedicates that every individual develops their morale under this stage and initiates
the ability to make choices relevant to their perception. Not only this at this stage individual
attains numerous rights to their authorities, needs and fair treatments (Curtis, Foster, Mitchell &
Van, 2016). His observation and understanding has made him recognize moral development
under adults or children at separate stages such as- pre-conventional mortality, conventional
mortality and post conventional mortality. These stages implement activities including- thought
processing, problem solving stages and qualitative thinking (Human growth and development
theories. 2017).
As per the given case Anne has developed observatory skills and rights to be treated
fairly and respectfully. Nurses under healthcare center must provide effective services to enhance
their morale and would also reduce her stress of being separated from her family. Therefore, it
enables positive attitude among hospitals and this increases her growth and development rate
which reduces appendicitis problems under her body. By adoption of this theory an Anne can
easily overcome her health issues. This theory further benefices in reducing the growth of
unwanted infections or bacteria's which are likely to be reflected under age of 10 years.
Therefore, observations are required to be made by health care professionals or nurses to reduce
development of unwanted bacteria. Studies have also determined that underdeveloped organs are
enhanced at this stage which benefits affected child to overcome her disease easily and
efficiently.
Family centred care
Studies have depicted that family centered care is related to the concern of family
members on the health problems that are occurred under their child. Similarly, according to the
case study, 10 years old girl is suffering from appendicitis which is highly cared and concerned
about their family members. This approach concerns on the health policies, wellbeing of their
child, day to day interactions with doctors and nurses to identify the growth rate of affected
personnel (Kirwan & Coyne, 2017). This approach acknowledges families social, emotional and

integral supports to an individual who possess health issues. Family centered approaches build an
individual health or support for better health and wellbeing which can be possible by allocation
resources according to their needs and demands.
Studies has further determined that affected child inner strength and support is developed
by the involvement of their family members and care that is delivered by them. Similarly, Anne
who is facing appendicitis problem is recovering soon due to the supports and care shown by her
family members which is enhancing its strength and power to cope up among pain. Health care
personnel's play a vital role in building families trusts, confidence and strength over the problems
which is faced by their child.
One of the crucial factor that has been determined under health care center is family
centered care concept. This establish awareness among health care centers to generate promotion
of wellbeing and safety of affected children. This approach plays an immense role in building the
development of child's health. Several principles are emerged under health care associations
related to the family centered care for their affected children. Some of these are- honoring
diversities under ethics, culture, social environment etc. which enhances family’s perception and
experiences under health services (Cutuli & et.al., 2017). Secondly, effective support must be
generated among family members by providing them relevant advice's regarding their child
health. Another principle of family centered care highlights sharing of honest and unbiased
information's among family members and therefore each child and its family members must be
empowered to establish their own choices, strengths and ability to take decisions regarding their
own health.
Family centered care aids in establishing pediatrician responsibilities regarding the
behavior of family member's over the health problems of their children. Such concepts must be
developed under every health care center which increases their abilities in serving best services
to affected individual which contributes in attaining morale of individual's and relevantly
increases the growth of healthcare center.
The effects of hospitalisation of the child, on the child and family
Every child showcases a negative attitude or behavior over health care centers and are
usually afraid to take medications. Hospitalization as well as illness are the most rigorous factors
which generate stressful experiences under children and their families (Yamada & et.al., 2017).

According to the cited case study hospitalization of Anne has resulted under pressure and tension
among her family members and has also created anxiety among her. All children possess
negative attitude among health care centers which emerges emotional absenteeism among them.
Children are merely stressed because they concern regarding separation among parents
and often wonders about the problems which have emerged under them. Further, they are being
afraid of left alone under hospitals and never identifies the pain which is developing under their
body. Similarly, when Anne was hospitalized for 10 days she started crying because of being left
alone by her parents.
On the other hand, family members remain stressed about the pain that must be
generating under their child body and therefore recklessly concern with their health care
professionals regarding improvement under their child health. However, mothers majorly remain
stressed and emotional until her child get discharged or get recovered (Huang & et.al., 2016).
Further, family members spend their whole time being in hospitals and even skips their meals
worrying about their child health. Thus, above study depicts that hospitalization of child
influences huge emotional stress under every individual that is affected person and their families
at huge context.
